Zoetrope (for prepared piano)

Post by MirekC »

Hi guys

I've always been deeply fascinated with this track, and for pianoday this year, I wanted to try and make a version of it for prepared piano and some electronics.

Curious to know what you think!

Wow, that was amazing! I never realized how cool Zoetrope could sound on a prepared piano and even gave me a new sense of appreciation for the track. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful!
Thanks for sharing.

Recently appreciating Zoetrope anew and also appreciating playing piano more than I ever have.
So it's funny to see this here -- like a combination of two unrelated and exciting parts of my life.

Hey guys!

I uploaded our scores on a private part of my website for you to have. No strings attached :)

http://www.mirekcoutigny.com/scores-boc

Enjoy! Not sure it's super exact for the whole piece and we also edited some parts out to get a shorter version. But it's the closest I could get to figuring all the harmonies out.

This is absolutely beautiful, thank you!

One of BoC's tunes that I wasn't that into when I first heard it but it is now one of my absolute favourites.

What a work of beauty! Must have taken quite some practise to make it work this way.

Your version made me wonder if they picked Zoetrope as a title because, as with a zoetrope, the frames need to just hit the right frequency to make it work. When it doesn't hit the right speed the image is turning the other(wrong) way as far as I can remember. This is what the sound seems to do as well... In other words, it sounds like how a zoetrope looks

I guess this has been mentioned before as it is so obvious but it was never brought to my attention until now.

Do you have the audio file up for dl somewhere? :)
