It's all such a clusterfuck. I still get anxious because the situation in the states is getting worse and I know you live in one of the currently hardest-hit states. How are they handling it?

New cases in Pittsburgh are now officially in the hundreds every day. Pennsylvania as a whole had over 1k new cases two days ago. The NY Times just ran this article called Pittsburgh Seemed Like a Virus Success Story. Now Cases Are Surging.

The 30th Birthday Party was a drunken shit show full of white girls hugging and breathing all over me, telling me how much they love me. I was asked by three people if I wanted to try their drink. I had enough when everyone started spilling their drinks all over the place and someone started talking about how mad they were that they had to wear a mask when they went to a casino. Casino girl said, and I quote, “our antibodies are changing every day so it’s really not bad.” That was my cue to get my shoes.

One of the wedding ceremonies I talked about in the previous post opted not to have the wedding party (to which I am a part of) present, but is still holding out for a summer 2021 huge reception. The baby shower I mentioned was canceled after myself and a few of the couple's family members expressed concern. Both of these events are now live streams with only immediate family present, I am still working from home with no sign of that changing any time soon, and I don't have any more in-person obligations until the holidays. So, less stress, but still stress.

The wedding ceremony that I officiated for yesterday had 10 people in attendance. Everyone was masked and socially distanced as best as possible, and I felt really good about it.

Florida just recorded the single-highest daily count of Coronavirus cases out of ANY state today. 15,300 new cases. But, don't worry, everyone, Disney World is open! It is such a summary of how stupidly this country is handling things.

I live in Massachusetts which was managing the 'rona pretty well up to this point. Perhaps too well. Where I live is being flooded with tourists coming from everywhere, Florida in particular. People from out of state are supposed to self-quarantine for 14 days, but yeah, that's not happening. It's only a matter of time before there's a spike. I went to the beach last week and it was an ugly scene. People everywhere. Meh.

I think that the US with the Trump administration won't really take action until people start panicking. Only when there are bodies in the streets will they take it seriously.

Seems like it's being reported that antibodies (and presumably resistance) runs out after about 3 months, so I guess we're in for the long haul till they work out a vaccine if that's true.

The companies said they expect to start a large trial with up to 30,000 participants as soon as later this month, upon regulatory approval.

Friend who threw the 30th birthday shitshow invited me to a going-away party for one of her friends. Stressed out about how stupid people are being, then declined it quickly.

Well I've had my jab today, and while I'm pretty sure I wasn't going to get it again and I'm still gonna be masking up a while and being careful, it feels good to get it. Even if it's just symbolic, driving up and seeing people getting theirs made me think yeah ok, this is the start of the road out of it.

I'm still being very careful. Apart from exercise, I haven't left my house in months. Strange how quickly I've gotten used to it.

It's actually scary how we've just adjusted to all this. It only hits me every now and again how incredibly weird all this is... we're going to be dealing with the psychic and emotional damage for years. I was watching a TV programme recently with a scene set in a busy bar during a football game and physically recoiled when I saw people celebrating and hugging each other - it feels so alien.

I'm worried about the impact this has had on my kids' relationship with their grandad who they haven't seen properly in over a year now; they're at such a formative age for forming those family relationships.

I'm sure some good will come out of it - I think (hope) the whole Monday-Friday, 9-5 office culture is gone - to be replaced by something more flexible. And the days of feeling obliged to drag yourself in to work with a cold are long gone I hope.

**edit to update my own Covid experience - almost one year since I got it and I still get tired a lot more easily than I did: I have way less energy now and need to sleep a lot more than ever. **

Could that not be your body's subconscious response to all of these lockdowns? I find myself a little lower on energy these days, and I never had the rona, or at least I don't think so (I haven't felt sick or even remotely rundown since Nov 2019)

Aye. This might be the pandemic's silver lining, if you can call it that. My job is going to be mostly remote once the office reopens, which I can't say I'm unhappy about.

One thing I will miss is the relatively slower pace of life. It was nice to not be rushing everywhere all the time.

Quite likely - I think everyone is feeling that at the moment.
