Okay, I totally need to check out Hand Cranked then.

Back to the topic though, I'd like to think that everyone here DOES venture out on their own personal music quests, traveling their own musical vectors, whilst still enjoying the boc. It's possible.

e.g. I'm totally listening to the organ works of Messiæn right now-- not boc-- and I just kinda got into it recently.

I agree. Ever since discovering the joys of BOC, my musical quest has taken me through many avenues of the darker, psychedelic and experimental realm of music. Warbly sounding melodies, back masking, hidden undercurrents, creepy atmospheres, and audio degradation are the roads I like to travel most. BOC just planted the seed...

Actually if you want to get technical, BOC WATERED the seed. Events in my life prior to discovering them planted it. They merely made it blossom.

I think EVERYONE'S lastfms on this board are the definitive testimony that we're not hopelessly bent on boc.

I can't stand how people are always stuck on MHTRTC's balls. Yeah, I know it is a great album too! Amazing! But come on, seems to me fans woln't get off the MHTRTC Roller Coaster.

They way is see it / they way it all play out for myself is, well I have not been listening to boc for like 6 years or anything but. I have always seen there records at a local store that i vist, but I was always like "Boards Of Canada...wtf". Then one day about a year ago...I asked a friend if she listens to BOC she is a boc freak, turns out. She sent me two tunes Sixtyniner and Olson. I was like oh man why did It take me soo long to check them out. I fell in love. I went to the warp site b/c ive always been an aphex twin fan....thats a huge story in it self but anways I ordered everything i saw. Vinyl and cd. For me, not just for boc but, I enjoy music more than life it self and I think that I evolve with an artist(s) at a sorta "Brain" level. I mean I under stand your reasoning and all and thats just how you as a person with there own mind, body and soul feel but i just feel truly cannot catagorize a persons evolution it just doesnt seem right and really i know that all people feel this way weather it be a in-direct / direct feeling but its there. We cannot make judgements on a persons evolution of there self/existance. In saying that i veiw all music as a infinate direct reflection of the person who create's it yeah all people dont write there own music or sing there own lyrics but still that music is in someway directly connected to that person who creates it or who exposes it. I have lost my train of thought....

I hope this doesn't upset anyone. haha I just really think that music = a persons evolution, and we have to respect all peoples own evolutions life weather it be good or bad. I just really like boards of canada and could never see that view on it. maybe this is too deep or personal but I just feel like that. we cant judge anything in the universe whatever, whereever, it really is. wow im so high.

Lol.

As a courtesy when you're typing long posts. It makes it a bit more palatable.

The greatest musicians of all time are the ones who continually evolve--and never look back.

The whole problem can be stated quite simply by asking, 'Is there a meaning to music?' My answer would be, 'Yes.' And 'Can you state in so many words what the meaning is?' My answer to that would be, 'No.'
