Post by Twoist »

Been waiting for something new since Hypernormalisation in 2016 and here it finally is. Can't Get You Out Of My Head, coming Feb 11th.

Fucking STOKED for this.

He doesn't always get it 100% right, but he's always a compelling watch. Cheers for the heads up.

Looking forward to it! I was a big fan of Hypernormalisation as well.

I think the best thing he’s done so far was All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace but Hypernormalization was very compelling as well. I’m excited for this one. I like how he ties together subjects that at first glance look totally disparate. Needless to say stylistically there’s something interesting going on with the presentation as well.

I just saw All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace. Really interesting and thought provoking. I didn't know who Adam Curtis was before this thread, so, cheers. I'll definitely check out more of his films.

Bitter Lake is also well worth a watch.

There's a short clip of Transmissions Ferox in part 2 also. As far as I recall, this is the first time Curtis has used BoC in a film.

Indeed it is, thanks for the recommendation. There's a few of Curtis' films on Amazon right now, including this one.

I'm currently watching Can't Get You Out of My Head on BBC's iPlayer, but my VPN connection is spotty. It's slow going at the moment.

I'm spending the entire day in bed watching the new one. So far it's everything I've been hoping for. Also the soundtrack includes a ton of Pye Corner Audio and Brian McBride / SOTL.

Just watched the first part. Brilliant.
Sagan: In order to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.

Basinski: I wanted Cascade to become this crystalline organism like a star or a liquid crystal spaceship, a jellyfish traveling through the galaxy…

I've just finished the second part, as always really interesting how he connects disparate elements and individuals to trace tell a bigger story and also touching on familiar Curtis themes of humans being trapped by our own psychological makeup.
Makes some points incredibly relevant to current politics and the media that should make some folk very uncomfortable, if they possessed the self-awareness to recognise it.
So far feels like the narrative he's presenting this time is a kind of overarching one that connects to elements of his previous documentaries, like 'Century of the Self' and 'The Trap' - will be fascinating to see how it turns out.

Partially through Part 2 now. I loved that he went into Discordianism and Operation Mindfuck in Part 1, but was pretty surprised he didn't mention Robert Anton Wilson, who was a hugely key player in that whole scene. He even mentioned Playboy's part in the origins of Discordianism and that's where Wilson was an editor.

Finished the final episode last night, whoah, amazing. Overall I'm left with a bit fat glowing message.. beware the fictions and the stories of your past, they will determine the facts of your future.

Some kind soul on Spotify has put together what appears to be a reasonably complete playlist for all six episodes.

Also I could swear I heard a literal half-second of Reach for the Dead in episode one or two.

Lots of This Mortal Coil! I had pretty much forgotten about them. I have a friend who was big into them ages ago. Definitely an appropriate choice, like all the other music used.

Also, 2Pac's mom was a badass.

Ahh, cheers. It went by so damned quickly and my brain defaulted to RftD.
