Daft Punk broke up today.
Boards of Canada are still standing.

Damn, that video gives me total BOC vibes. It also gave me Beatles vibes with the "Love is the answer" chorus circa "All you need is love."
I didn't even follow these guys but there are many similarities between BOC and Daft Punk. Secretive duo. First release in 95,' Twoism had two people in helmets on the cover. Four albums. The third album was often slagged off by fans and critics in 2005. They took a long time to release the fourth album with a giant release campaign which also got mixed reception. And for the last 7 years, fans waited, hoping for a fifth album.
Let's hope BOC's story ends differently. RIP Daft Punk.

I'm feeling a bit ambivalent about this goodbye video.

You're right with most of that stuff, but I wouldn't say Tomorrow's Harvest and Random Access Memories had mixed reception- they were both almost universally critically acclaimed.Echelon wrote: Damn, that video gives me total BOC vibes. From the critics, but not necessarily from the fans. TH was perhaps the most divisive release; and RAM imo was not worth the hype. I think those sentiments are shared by a good amount of people.SamuraiDrifter wrote:You're right with most of that stuff, but I wouldn't say Tomorrow's Harvest and Random Access Memories had mixed reception- they were both almost universally critically acclaimed.Echelon wrote: Damn, that video gives me total BOC vibes. Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC
The Campfire Headphase was definitely the most divisive BoC release, I think. If you look back at posts here, the album leaked and some people were convinced it had to be fake. A lot of people were very disappointed with the change of sound.Davism wrote: From the critics, but not necessarily from the fans. Actually you can look back at old mailing list posts and see Geogaddi had it's fair share of detractors too. Not everyone loves every album.

Yes. Maybe the best music year of my life lol. On top of Daft Punk and BoC, the first Parquet Courts record was released, MBV also made a comeback and Vampire Weekend put out their best record.arvy wrote:Both albums were great! In my opinion. 2013 was the fuckin year!
Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC
Yeah, I read that people were torn on CH (before I discovered BoC), but there are times I feel that's their most "BoC" sounding album. Yeah, people have different takes.
Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC
Oh that's true. I think I mixed that up! Still, very devastating. In a parallel universe, this could have very much been BOC's fate. Still could be. But i really hope that's not the case.SamuraiDrifter wrote:You're right with most of that stuff, but I wouldn't say Tomorrow's Harvest and Random Access Memories had mixed reception- they were both almost universally critically acclaimed.Echelon wrote: Damn, that video gives me total BOC vibes. It is a smart move, overall. A true gentelman knows when to leave the party.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC
Honestly, that's a brilliant quote. And very true. Weird, I think it applies to BOC too, because i feel they'd find a classy way to leave. I really hope their final goodbye is one last album to blow our minds.arvy wrote:It is a smart move, overall. A true gentelman knows when to leave the party.
But if not, I won't hold it against them either. Their body of work, imo, is nearly perfect and if they don't wish to potentially tarnish it, I respect that.

Thanks, bro. Daft Punk was my gateway drug to electronic music . Still remember catching that video of Dog in New York when I was 9-10 years old. Was feeling cool as fuck! Honesty, BOC are different animals, DP almost feels cringy at times, with those helmets. Tho, the music is other story...Echelon wrote:Honestly, that's a brilliant quote. And very true.
