Looking through old posts the other day, I came across a 3 year old screenshot from the BOC group, from a guy saying he had a mutual friend with BoC who told him a new album "was half done."

My response was "Half done? Jesus. It's been 5 years. See you in 2023."

I was sort of joking, but now that timeline is starting to look more and more accurate.

Good mentality to have. That's how I roll on here. Eventually we'll be looking at a new album.

Also Drifter, if the album was half way done three years ago, then it would probably be three quarters done by now. Maybe more than that.

Hell Interface youtube changed their banner to an edited Pioneer Plaque with the faces erased, and a turquoise hexagon in the man's hand, which is raised symbolically in the original piece as a sign of good will. the Pioneer 10 Launch date was March 2nd 1972.

in my opinion, this banner change pretty much has to mean something. it is technically original Boards of Canada art, and it is fairly clear the message is something like "yes we're coming". i just really hope it's happening this year, cause it would make sense that next year is the 50th anniversary of the Pioneer 10 launch... but to me that seems kind of ridiculous for them to put up that banner so early.

I've no idea if they have jobs to do, or are able to spend all their time on music, but you would have to imagine that the past year must have presented a good opportunity for the brothers to get some work done.
There's also something about the current times that feels right for a new album, at least a kind of companion piece to Tomorrow's Harvest. Who knows.

There was a post some weeks back on reddit that said there would be an announcement today for an album to be released in April. There was nothing in the post that someone couldn't just make up (and some things I just don't buy, like it being a black album) but the account vanished and the post text was removed. Didn't think anything of it at all, until the BoC facebook page posted the Sundown video yesterday. Activity like that so close to the date caused further speculation, as usually happens with BoC

At this point, the HI Pioneer 10 banner and March 2 is probably a better bet, but still not holding my breath.

Always nice to believe in something. Until we get more solid clues, I'll humor people like that with a decent degree of skepticism.

On the plus side, at least they actually created something that pertained to BOC (i.e. fun fanfiction) rather than another artist trying to pass off their own art as BOC so we'll listen to it.

to each his own.

I like the fanfiction because I'm a writer so it fuels my imagination more than fakes, which generally don't have the BOC special sauce anyway. Though the Adult Swim one is the one that comes closest to me at capturing the TH magic.

I do believe in something. I believe that BoC will release a new album when they're ready to do so. Don't see any need to humor attention-seeking trolls like that Reddit poster, or the hoaxers trying to pass off their Diet Coke BoC ripoffs as the real thing.
