Sounds like typical "a good trip gone bad"mthrndr wrote:Here's the thing - while some of this deep theorizing and breadcrumb seeking is a bit silly, especially with very little, if any, feedback from official sources (again, MDG hasn't peeped a word since 2015), I feel pretty strongly that BoC has implicitly encouraged this kind of theorizing, starting with the red moon code. They threw out a code which likely led to a 'secret' beach party which got everyone into a tizzy in 2006. Then following on that with the TH campaign - it's understandable to me how the hardcore fanbase might take this to extremes. Personally, I think it's amusing and mostly harmless. I enjoy some mystery and if nothing else, BoC provides a little of that in my life. Where it falls apart is when people start to take it too seriously. The question I ask myself is: are BoC / Hexagon Sun laughing with us or at us? As long as we're at the point where I can imagine they're laughing WITH us, it's all good. If it gets to a point where they might be laughing AT us, it's time to take a break.

See now that's awesome, Drixlin. I'm starting to realize it's better to speculate on what they'll do rather than when they'll do it. Because I fully believe that Warp and BOC are going to do something to promote the album that will capture our imagination, but it will be different from the TH campaign.drixlin wrote:This, but does anyone remember the "news" campaign that the movie Independence Day did?debugDolores wrote:Here's food for thought - what if we see a buildup/ARG like Tomorrow's Harvest, but with a theme of extraterrestrial life/outer space? Maybe something along the lines of the Wow signal?
I was watching the Simpsons one Sunday night and they did a whole War of the Worlds style thing where they "took over" the station to broadcast about things happening in the sky, all over the world. Made it look like a real news station and whatnot.
BoC likely wouldn't be able to take over a station (Adult Swim, maybe?) but something along those lines, creating a whole first contact-type story line would be pretty freaking cool.
Either way, I fully suspect there will be a full on *start* for whatever they are doing.
If they do a campaign, it'll definitely be online again like Trans Canada Highway campaign due to the pandemic and I think there will be some kind of fancy video of BOC returning from space in cryptic fashion, perhaps shown in some kind of takeover.
One of the coolest things that the BOC twitter liked was when someone posted a program that creates vibe sounds from outer space and they said, "This sure sounds like BOC." Not sure if they simply thought it was cool, (that's what I thought back then) but nowadays with all the outer space speculations, it seems more uncanny.

How's this for a trip: I bought IABPOITC in store the month it was released (same with Geogaddi), but I hadn't heard any of OT 1, 2 or R35tt until TWO MONTHS AGO.

How was it? I'm sure it must have been like getting the long awaited BOCset.mthrndr wrote: I hadn't heard any of OT 1, 2 or R35tt until TWO MONTHS AGO.

Here's another good one - I hadn't heard the "proper" release of OT 1&2 until LAST NIGHT - haha.mthrndr wrote:How's this for a trip: I bought IABPOITC in store the month it was released (same with Geogaddi), but I hadn't heard any of OT 1, 2 or R35tt until TWO MONTHS AGO.
I excitedly told my wife I heard two new-to-me BoC tracks because I hadn't looked into my copy and compare it.
Zander Two and North Sea Arbeit weren't in my copy I've had since...2006 or longer...first time I heard them was last night.
I AM GOD. THE ULTIMATE RESONANCE.

That's the trip, broski. How about this: I played Resident Evil 3 for the firstme on the 11th of september 2001 ?mthrndr wrote:How's this for a trip: I bought IABPOITC in store the month it was released (same with Geogaddi), but I hadn't heard any of OT 1, 2 or R35tt until TWO MONTHS AGO.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC
I was vaguely aware of bootlegs back in the slsk days but I just kinda thought they were all fakes. I'd definitely heard all the great unreleased tracks in the live sets (and boc maxima), but didn't actually realize there was more. I wasn't really that into BoC in the mid 2000s - 2010s for whatever reason (part of it was that I was a member of WATMM back in 1999, but then Joyrex reset all the members and would not let me rejoin. I'm still pissed about that, but at the time I said 'fuck it' and kind of completely ignored the fanbase for a long time).Echelon wrote:How was it? Got back into BoC when I started expanding my vinyl collection after moving late last year. Then, as I think is probably a common occurrence once I had the vinyls I started thinking "there's got to be more", but it was more that I was amazed that there's still been no 'real' leaks of the old proper albums (Closes, Acid Memories, Hooper Bay, PBN). That's when I realized that the OTs and the random 35 tracks that are kicking around on youtube were all real. Yeah, this realization happened in January 2021.
Since then I've consumed the whole of bocpages, many of the threads on twoism, and of course have had OT1, 2, and r35tt pretty much on repeat for the past couple months.
So in reality I've had the pleasure of discovering the old tracks alongside rediscovering how fucking great TH is, and I have to say, the old tunes hold their own right alongside the polished released work. Yeah, they're rough around the edges in some cases but those tracks really feel like a look under the curtain at early, unrefined genius. And the best tracks on those collections are mind-blowing to me. The fact that we were never "supposed" to hear some of these is just

Please don’t direct your anger toward me. I asked Mexicola a simple question. There was no value judgment on his moderating abilities. And I didn’t ask this to open the door to being a mod myself—not everyone says things with ulterior motives. There is no harm in asking if someone else who would be happy to do it because mexicola seems unhappy with the role based on the above comment.Geogandhi wrote:writetomhatcher wrote:If you aren’t interested in the discussion in this thread, would you consider making another user a moderator?Mexicola wrote: Still more interesting than 97% of this thread. Mexicola is doing just fine as a Moderator and human with enough humour to be likeable. I hope you were not considering your boring, tepid young self to be eligible, surely? Some BoC fans do tend to be precious but man, you're on a crusade to kill all the life from anywhere that likes to talk BoC.

They absolutely do encourage it. One clue is that the numerology references on MHTRTC and Geogaddi were tied to 23, fnord, and Discordianism, all utilized by Robert Anton Wilson, who they've named as an influence.mthrndr wrote:Here's the thing - while some of this deep theorizing and breadcrumb seeking is a bit silly, especially with very little, if any, feedback from official sources (again, MDG hasn't peeped a word since 2015), I feel pretty strongly that BoC has implicitly encouraged this kind of theorizing, starting with the red moon code. In Wilson's novels, the 23 enigma specifically is a parody on how people's minds will form patterns out of chaos, no matter how far they have to stretch. To me that's a clever way of acknowledging that the numerology is a sort of tongue-in-cheek way of manipulating the audience into digging for clues.

I don't see how there's any point in desperately trying to keep this fire lit.
It's pretty ridiculous really.
You are continuing to derail a discussion that started with why using the word "retarded" is wrong. That discussion should have been over 5 pages ago. This is the only thing I will say about this.
And reminder, this is the GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC.

Honestly, I had a similar moment to you and that was during Warp 30. I loved BOC before that, but afterwards, I decided I was going to "sit tight" and wait for the coming of the new record, however long it took. I went through a huge binge similar to what you're doing now and it only enhanced my love for the band, its lore and the fanbase.mthrndr wrote:Echelon wrote:How was it? I think the acoustic tracks on R35TT are the biggest eye-opener to me. As was written by Richard Southern, Acid Memories was a DIY with drum machines synths and acoustic guitars but with "recognizable BOC melodicism" and I hear that fully on the acoustic tracks.
Perhaps whenever they decide to unveil themselves we might get both a new record and a curated collection of outtakes, like TH and the vinyl represses. You never know

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC
I received a Warp newsletter today and guess what, it contains no new releases. Simply a promotion for the Stereolab release, an anniversary for B-12- Time Tourist and an interview/article about Flylo and his Grammy Nomination.
Strange, but I think I'm past thinking there's something secretive going on. Could very well be there's nothing to release until Squid on May 7th
