Joanna Newsom

Post by thedisavowed »

I know this is RADICALLY far afield for this forum, but I read Pitchfork's review of Joanna Newsom's 'Ys' and so I downloaded it and I think it's.. fantastic. Kind of in a magical way. Especially "Sawdust and Diamonds."

Any fans in here?

kyriakos, I'm so glad you're on the board.

i envy you, man.

i'd love to see her live.

Is she hot? Cause she seems hot to me in the pictures I've seen.

But anyways, I'm trying to find her official website to find tour dates and I'm having little luck. Do you know where it is?

EDIT: FOUND THE DATES. NO SLC. DAMMIT.

yea she's coming back toronto but im low on funds and can't go. i think she's having other people play with her on stage this time. the concert i went to it was just her and her harp. she was still magical. and yeah, she's beautiful. lotta shouting of compliments from the crowd.

her music is just so great. :)

You know, I thought for a while that Grizzly Bear was going to be my album of the year. But I think that Newsom's 'Ys' has supplanted it.

Too bad she won't even be on any music award show's radars, cause she deserves it and more.

BUT HERE'S THE RUB: APPARENTLY SHE BEGAN HER TOUR IN NORTH AMERICA IN SALT LAKE CITY.

DAMN IT.

I wasn't into her on November 4. Such a tragedy.

I'd wish I was into her as well. Nudge nudge, wink wink, know what I mean, know what I mean, say no more, say no more!

Happiness. They're slower than a rough bowel movement, but Drag City finally delivered Joanna Newsom's current discography to me.

I've been playing it almost constantly for the past week or so. Took me while to get into it, but now i can't stop listening. It's amazing. So trad, but so out there too. How do her other releases compare?

You know, I've yet to listen to the 'Milk-Eyed Mender' all the way through yet, but it's good.

The problem is that 'Ys' is so monumentally good, that a lot of records look pretty silly by comparison. But, I think you should listen to both. I really like 'Sadie' especially, and Bridges and Balloons too.

*BUMP*

"The meteorite is the source of the light, and the meteor's just what we see. And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee... and the meteorite's just what causes the light and the meteor's how its perceived, and the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet and offering to thee..."

I'm not even sure I understand why this album is so beautiful- but it really is...

My girlfriend's brother burned me Y's. I have yet to listen to all of it. Want to set aside some time and take it in all at once.

Best record of '06, IMO. (as far as folk-rock goes)

It's not the kind of record I listen to obsessively in the way that I (currently) listen to bands like Slowdive, but it's a masterpiece.

It's music you can focus on, with lyrics that actually reward study. That's a rare thing these days.

RESURRECTION, JESUS-STYLE

I am in love with Joanna's new song '81. What a totally beautiful song. it reminds me of a girl I've been very close, intimate friends with for 8+ years, the most delicate creature in the world. she is made of porcelain and her feelings are made of ice crystals, but she will hug you even though she knows she will melt. she is the universe's sweetest creature. this song reminds me of her.
