Sounds a lot more like Amon Tobin TBFH.
Re: Possible early BoC piece from Autechre's Kiss 102 show,
Who says they only made 1 method/style of music back then? I agree it does sound more like Jega, but I'm not about to discount it being BoC because it's not the typical style of that time for them. They made a ton of stuff back then that we simply haven't heard.Omikron wrote:I'm not convinced that it's BOC. It sounds far too hectic. I'd love word from mdg to clear this up. As I feel we don't have enough to say either way at the moment.

It does sounds like it could be BoC.
But to be fair, it hardly gets my nipples hard. Kinda meh.

Surprised this is even up for discussion. There is no way that is BOC.

To me it doesn't sound like BoC at all. If I would blindly guess I'd say Lego Feet. Autechre used this moniker for the more all over the place experimental hip-hop-ish electronica.

The breaks remind me more of DJ Food, or as previously mentioned Amon Tobin, than BoC.
Re: Possible early BoC piece from Autechre's Kiss 102 show,
You have a point, but there isn't much else we can do other than compare it to their known work as a frame of reference for their music of that time period. I haven't completely ruled it out, but I find it more likely to be a different artist, maybe even Gescom themselves. Either way, I enjoy the track(s) and would like to hear more of the 1995 broadcasts.747Music wrote:Who says they only made 1 method/style of music back then? Nice tune most of it sounds to me like MBM; its interesting to hear the opinions here.
The BoC sounding parts really are those flutes and definitely the phased little synth keys loop. Its hard to tell what's going on with the percussion because of the transition.

Re: Possible early BoC piece from Autechre's Kiss 102 show,
I think you're right about the super early stuff. If I were to wager what they sounded like back then I would say it's a lot of paddy distorted guitar type stuff. Artists normally start off by sounding like those who influenced them the most. So my guess is that early Boards Of Canada sounds like My Bloody Valentine. No doubt their production process was directly influenced by trying to create a poor mans MBV (loveless cost like half a million to make) through that process of discovery they made some major lofi innovations and just decided to develop a similar approach with synths, no doubt a lot cheaper too.747Music wrote:Who says they only made 1 method/style of music back then? Loveless did not cost half a million to make. But I agree, I bet everything pre-old-tunes sounds more like a pots-and-pans version of a mix between Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine. Probably with a lot more teen-angst and 15 minute drone pretentiousness.
Honestly, we're better off waiting for new stuff.

Sounds a little too well mixed and dynamic for '95-era BoC, but it's an incredible track regardless.

Re: Possible early BoC piece from Autechre's Kiss 102 show,
Thanks for the comment, I hadn't seen this thread before. To my ears, that's not BoC in any incarnation. I'm not hearing any elements present in their work, with the exception of flute sounds. Don't know who this could be, but sounds like Jega. I'm also hearing some Amon Tobin percussion, although this track feels a lot more airy that Tobin's early work. I also don't recall any flutes in early Tobin / Cujo. Definitely jazzy elements (horns, warped string bass), but not flutes...

Re: Possible early BoC piece from Autechre's Kiss 102 show,
This is a really cool track, but hardly sounds anything like BoC to me besides some surface similarities. The production doesn't sound right at all for them.
I'd love to see it identified, though.

Dope track, but I don't think it is BoC. Almost same bassline as this one, year too. I can see this being a Photek tune from that time:
