Possible Closes Vol. 1 and Catalog 3 Rips from YouTube?
Hi everyone!
Just forwarding this from reddit:
Seems like a new YouTube channel has popped up over the past couple of days, uploading tracks claiming to be from closes vol. 1 and catalog 3. In the closes videos, there is a photo of a closes cassette ( For catalog 3,
In all honesty, I think the channel is fake -- the uploader is probably trying to make it seem like they are real so they could sell the tapes soon for big money. Surely, there's no chance that someone after 30 years would just so happen to own both originals on cassette and start ripping them now?
What do y'all think?

Fake. XerxesCorr is the same user who said that Brian Chatton's "Mood in Motion" (at the time still unidentified) was an unreleased Vytas Brenner track.
"Boards of Canada is a unique project that got a bit out of hand."

Ye, these aren't real. Godever is pretty much confirmed to be A14 from R35TT, plus most of the tracks don't even sound like BoC overall. Even super early BoC.
Faboo!

looks fake as hell, and the user seems to have a bad track record, as he uploaded one of the gem atrium tracks labeled as "Tends towards".
Just i as i was writing this i got this other fake track in my recommended
. Sounds somewhat similar to these fakes

He could have at least make a new account for these videos and make it more believable. These fakers really got no clue lol.WaitingFor_22 wrote:Fake. XerxesCorr is the same user who said that Brian Chatton's "Mood in Motion" (at the time still unidentified) was an unreleased Vytas Brenner track.

Even without all the obvious red flags, these tracks have been put through some kind of cheap mastering software, they wouldn't be that loud if they were genuine. And they'd have natural background hiss.

several of those fakes are available here, they're all actually really good (albeit not boc at all). i think "focus on the spiral 2" is shit tho lmao.
To quickly run through them all:
- "Breach Tones" has been circulated a tonne online before, I have the file from soulseek. I'd say it's fake as hell but it does kind of sound like a 1980s cassette home recording.
- I actually have no idea where "Tends Towards" comes from.
- Godever, Close2, Close 4, and Helios Sound come from the same BoC soundcloud fakes I listed above.
- I have no idea where Close3 is from.

For long time I was convinced that Focus on The Spiral, Close3, Helios Sound and Ithcus were real. Best fakes I've heard for sure.bakedsodium wrote:

This is genuinely glorious, I'd love to find the original artist and the full track.

So far its very good, but it acutely reminds me of very old BoC. If this is legit new stuff its the bros going SUPER old school. It has incorporated so many of their old tics. Overall seems a little poppy/simple for BOC.
If these were uploaded as MHRTC b-sides that would be something. Whoever made these is good at what they do though. Like Mexicola and 747Music said -- rep your own brand!
Edit: I've popped these into a dropbox folder. PM me if you'd like me to share it with you.
