BOC clearly operate on a different time scale than everyone else. The Treat Em Right remix in 2021 proved that they are chugging along even as one of their contemporaries gave up. And then, them ok'ing Roygbiv in December proved they were still around as of then. As much as it pains me, I think there will be a big event a year from now in 2023 for the TH 10th anniversary and MHTRTC's 25th. It's too good to pass up. This will probably be a filler year like the last one, albeit with more IDM this time...hopefully.

I'd love to be proven wrong on that though.

As for Fredd-E and his statement on Mike's Twitter. I believe him actually and Drifter had it right. I'd also add that from all the posts I've ever seen from Fredd-E on here, he's never tried to gain anything from lying to people. No idea how a fake would manage to get that black and white newspaper photo otherwise either.
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

Thanks for the optimism Echelon. And yes, it just goes to show that there are many ample opportunities besides Geo's 20th coming up for Warp to look in their pocket full of anniversary's and maybe surprise us! Who knows! :D
And I'm sure that the catalogue and roster of 22/23 will be laden with IDM.

And yeah, it doesn't make sense to me for Fredd-E to Lie considering his position, seems like a strange turn to take, on this topic of all places. I think the rampant posting here the night before the anniversary got it as many responses as it did.

What can you say apart from welcome to twoism!

Speaking of the Treat Em Right remix, where did that go? I can’t even find it on SoundCloud. Why does this happen; is it the artists that pull the song or the platform?

It's still available on Spotify in Europe so it seems. Here in Belgium I can play it. Guess it's only removed in US? I'll try and find an answer. Will report later hopefully.

what is the logic behind thinking they would ever announce or release new music on an anniversary date for their earlier work?

this makes absolutely no sense to me, and i don't think they would ever do that.

Correct, there is no logic behind thinking they would release some new material which would overshadow an anniversary of a previous work. I was thinking more of an interview/lithograph print perhaps would happen.

Maybe if all of us collectively get a date tattooed on our palms we can create the release.

I believe that most people here where hoping for a deluxe edition of Goegaddi or something. It can be common for artists to re-release albums on anniversaries, we just need to remind ourselves that BoC aren't the common artist when it comes to releasing music.

On a different subject, that photo that Warp posted is newly released yeah? It's really strange to me how Mikes face is obscured by sun but Marcus isn't. It's jarring like how their Twitter profiles are so drastically different too. It's like they're not on the same page or something, like they're not coordinating like they used to...

I'm definitely over thinking this, but it was an interesting thing to ponder.

My theory on why MDG was here on the 17th: He wanted to see how people were reacting to Geogaddi's anniversary and the non-existent celebration from the label and the band. When that happened, he told Warp that you should at least acknowledge that date and so they did.

A big shame regardless. Geogaddi is their magnum opus so I definitely would have liked an article or some merchandise in the least. MHTRTC was a mix-tape of the bands best work from the 90s but Geo was their first full album from scratch. They put so much effort into the symbolism of the tracks, and the inherent creativity, that to me, it's even better than MHTRTC. I'm sure the rest of the world doesn't see it that way, but Geo harvested the raw materials from the last decade to create the band's first and best concept album.

In summation: MHTRTC made me think, "these guys are pretty cool" but Geo made me think, "these guys are the best electronic band on the planet."

Agreed. MHTRTC is great, but Geogaddi and Tomorrow's Harvest are tied for my all-time favorite albums by any artist.

It would have been nice to see more, but I like to think the reason they didn't do any new merch or anything is because they're too busy finishing up their next album. :)

Yeah, admittedly I was more hyped last year to the point of even starting the Geo 20th thread, but as it drew closer, I had a feeling in my gut it wasn't going to happen.

But I am certain that they are somewhere out there, plugging away at their new masterpiece. Though for them, three years is probably more like one.

And yeah, Statpow, I'm sure they actually read our predictions and deliberately negate them.

I think just the acknowledgement of the anniversary and all that is just another signpost saying that things are coming at some point or another. I'd consider the fact that warp made a post was a significant enough of an event to remind fans BoC is still out there somewhere

Ehhh... I have a vague feeling about BoC, Warp and the music BIZ but can't really put it into simple words that mean exactly what I want to say. But I'm starting to think that they're no longer good stewards of a band like BoC, basically. They had them on roster when they were really, REALLY cool, and that made THEM look cool, and in this day and age, who is even into BoC? It's not the cool kids they're desperately trying to market to.

I don't think they ever phoned the band and said, like, "hey boys, gonna need an EP this year at least". Don't get me wrong. But these days, it feels like if they give a damn about BoC at all it's as a little bauble in the bank to say "look, we bought into these guys way back. Don't ask about new material, look at their stuff we put out in the glory days". They're like a reciept of cool that transfers agreed-upon value back to them, they almost don't NEED them to make anything now, who are they going to market it to? Who's their target demographic as a label? Honestly, now, is it us?

Just put out reissues and ride the cachet of what they got out of them way back when. Keep them on the roster while their value goes to the moon, like a Bored Ape of Canada.

This is scarily similar to my sentiment toward the Silent Hill franchise. However, unlike the vidya gaem industry, music isn't as high risk/high reward these days, and BoC already have a large reputation in any scene by this point. I imagine any 14 y/o fan of Anthony Fantano is just as likely to be into more experimental (for lack of a better word) acts like Aphex Twin, Bjork, Radiohead, etc. I've said this before, but how many times can you find someone mentioning in a YouTube comment section something along the lines of "BoC vibes". I don't think I can really imagine a new BoC release being a net negative for any label. They probably wouldn't be that into a BoCset, though :|

Another thing I've been thinking about, but TH came out in 2013, it's 2022 and physical media is a pretty niche thing, and the concept of an album is pretty abstract, with more of a focus on individual songs and more condensed releases. I recall this being the reason NIN released their EP trilogy a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure i've seen this picture somewhere on their soundcloud, so no it's not new.
