Autechre... again

Post by thedisavowed »

There's probably no linguists in here..

but if you can... and if you authoratatively know...

how is 'autechre' pronounced?

is it aw-tek-ray

or aw-te-shray

or what?

Just so I don't sound stupid...

BTW.. I just ordered Tri-Repetae, Amber, and Incanabula off of Amazon this morning for my b-day.. i'm pretty jazzed

Sean & Rob pronounce it 'Awe-tek-er' in interviews so I think we can safely assume that it is the proper pronounciation.

I personally pronounce it 'Awe-tek-ruh' because I think it sounds better... 8)

Those three albums are a good start, but don't be scared off by the rest of their catalogue. I think their later stuff is worth so much more than most people give it credit if you invest the time.

Is there any rhyme or reason behind the name? It's a strange one.

So I found a video for Second Bad Vibel on Winamp and it's rad.

Do they have any others?

I'm really starting to become a convert to this autechre stuff.....

444 is sweet.

I wonder why the appreciation curve for autechre has been so steep with me.

As I said, Autechre said they don't mind how people pronounce it...in other words, there isn't really a right pronounciation.

i've actually read in an interview where they randomly mashed the name in a game of some sort and came out with that.

But yeah, if you like the video, it's done by the director Chris Cunningham. He does great stuff. As for other AE vids - Gantz Graf is simply amazing.

they'd be awful wankers to obsess over how their name is pronounced as opposed to how people percieve their music.

sean and rob pronounce it aw-tekk-er, but i seriously doubt they really give a shit how people pronounce it as long as they're buying the music

I heard it in a radioshow where Sean explained it, so I'm 100% sure.

I used to pronounce it like aw-yu-te-shray, but I've since changed to the less stupid sounding aw-te-kurr.

The same can not be said for me and AAAHphex Twin.
