Reappearance of tracks in multiple releases

Every time I listen to Twoism I get startled by the presence of Smokes Quantity as the last track along with 1986 Summer Fire, I believe the reason is that I always associate the track to MHTRTC and its entire ambiance. Yet I still think Smokes Quantity works wonders as the last track for Twoism, it just gives off a really different vibe when in comparison to its placement in MHTRTC, I feel like both of them have very different feelings and purposes, even if both versions are literally the same, one having an extra song at the end.

It's the same thing with Boc Maxima, that release has a lot of tracks that would later on appear in their own separate releases, and even if they are the same or at least very similar to their later versions , I still feel the overall mood of the album ends up affecting the tracks.

I'd like to see if anyone else feels the same.

Smokes Quantity works great in MHTRTC because it's their name for their friend and it's placed after Olson and Pete, also important people in their lives.


I'm pretty sure that BOC Maxima was a dry run for MHTRTC and also probably something they were hawking around to interest record labels. It makes sense why there are overlapping tracks but they do indeed produce a different effect in each appearance. BOC Maxima is kind of a full length Hi Scores in that respect and MHTRTC is the Best of the Best of the 90s.

Unintentional or not, MHTRTC is also the beginning of their fascination with concept albums even if it seems a polished mixtape of the best of their 90s works.

I relate to this a lot and also wondered if anyone else felt the same. Listening to Boc Maxima on its entirety feels completely different to me than going for the EPs and MHTRTC instead, the context in which they are placed changes everything for me.
Also since I'm obsessed with their earlier work, I ended up listening to Boc Maxima and AFOT more times than their main albums, so when I decide to listen to MHTRTC I'm always startled by Whitewater not playing right after Turquoise Hexagon Sun or King of Carnival not playing after The Color of the Fire, which I think work great paired together.
