They do sound similar, and that’s the vhs track that I think samples Geo’s Catherine Fell hoax. He’s not the one behind the tape, but it’s a hoax on hoax.

I am also just catching up after being gone a day.

So, i know what I'm linking isn't the VHS tape but it's one of those artists that drops tunes every now and then that are simply great.

I am adding it to this conversation because it is coinciding with a lot of other activity, which we all seem to be noticing.



I cannot recommend this YouTube channel highly enough. Everyone loved their first appearance with a tune called Pingus.

I like the Scald tune. The comparison track on the VHS tape has that awesome grinding, fluttering, distortion like Olson. I love it.

I'm not familiar with the Catherine Fell hoax and haven't researched it, but i find it interesting that the VHS tape could be sampling a hoax song.

This is pure speculation, but wouldn't it be nice if BOC did that... On purpose... Maybe it turns out that they're imitating the imitators. Didn't they do something like that with the "Uhhh" video thing?

Anyway, the good thing is that various music is being introduced and i am greedily snatching it all for my personal playlist.

I compared the the Boqurant track spectrogram to the OTV1 tape version and they are not the same. They also have different overall pitches and timing.

The two labeled tracks are also played a little differently. Messed up in some spots. Probably intentionally to come off as “early versions”?
They sound good, but they are wrong.

This is the 10th in a series of tracks from unknown VHS tape that contained primitive electronic music. It has been remastered and broken down as individual tracks by Mister 8. Copyright 2022, 8 Records. Mister 8 on Spotify, Pandora and Apple.
As written in his YouTube description he allegedly remastered the songs and broke them down as individual songs. Ok, that's fair, but what I don't understand is why link these songs to your own artist profile on Spotify (and other social media) if you aren't the artist who created the songs? All this would only make sense if you are in fact the person behind the tape?

Ok this is rather questionable behaviour. I really would like to know if he's he man behind the music or just making a profit out of it. Time for the OG to stand up?

And it's obvious Shazam might recognise it now because it's linked to Spotify. They're partners.

This makes it even more of a pity the songs will possibly be incorrectly attributed to another artist, unless of course Mister 8 is the OG. But I've listened some of his other works on Spotify and it's not likely I think.

We still haven’t found the original artist yet. My guess is Mister 8 only wants to earn some dollars by distributing his remastered version of the Tape by selling CDs and uploading it to his Spotify profile.

Am I the only one who is rather miffed by this. :x

It's such a shame that the VHS Fake doesn't have any official warp records licensed BoC tracks to which the label has copyright control over. Because then warp would be able to stop him making a profit, if he is making money from this tape.

People selling other artists work for their own gain is not on.
