Your Alternative Chrimbo Tunes

Post by Orbited insanitarium »

That ruddy commercialized holiday is around the bend again.
They play Shaking Stevens, Slade, and Paul McCartney dozen times over in every shop and supermarket anywhere and everywhere. Is it enough repetition to drive you nuts?

This period isn't really celebrated by me, I am Jewish on my mothers side. Still, what are some winter Christmas songs you know that get zilch airtime? Here's the opportunity to post them. (To replace some of the mind-numbing classics.)

Give us your alternative Chrimbo tracks. Get hectic. One rule; you mustn't be able to visualize any being played on radio!

Captain Beefheart - There Ain't No Santa Claus on the Evening Stage

Tom Waits - Christmas Card From A Hooker in Minneapolis

Genesis - Snowbound

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Il est né le divin enfant

Winter is a hallucinogenic season for me. Go on, give a tab to the turkey!!!
That's got an underlying spooky and scaryness. Which reminded me of Cosmic Manta's track for Whine on Twoism.

I despise this time of year and the demographic it is designed for. However trying to enter into the spirit here's one of John Peel's favourite bands.

Being a participant in the Covid-19 vaccination initiative gave renewed meaning to my life.

Not when you have to hear the a capella cover by Jimmy Fallon and co. every day while working.

Now we know the real reason The Beatles stayed together so long before they broke up, Paul saw in an acid trip that an unwritten solo song of his would be massacred by across the pond Celebrities in the distant future.

(Seriously though, ho-ho bloody ho. I literally hear that version all the time and I'm not even in the same country as you. 'Sing' was a big success over here as well sadly.)

Also Monsieur Glen Glog, I admire your dedication to the thread!

One for the pot from Zappa.

This is under 2 min I don't know if it counts.

Its interesting to think some songs are played more to intolerable levels in different countries. Do they play the Cocteau Twins xmas stuff in Europe all the time like in shopping areas during the holidays there? I don't think I've heard their Frosty Snowman and Winter Wonderland covers here in the states ever.

My favorite Xmas album. The "Whovian Waltz" leitmotif is as iconic as any Christmas carol.

This thread will now reach it's peak on the day, with...

Mac Demarco - It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas (this years Mac cover with an inflatable video to accompany!)

Darren Lock - I Believe in Father Progmas (Greg Lake parody w/ lots of prog rock references.)

Prog on!

Alrighty then, that's a (present) wrap. You all have a good one. <:D
