Discussion thread for the possible Hooper Bay leak
Post your thoughts here!
On discogs, a James Loughton claims to have a vinyl copy of Hooper Bay. People accused him of lying, so he posts this:
It's not enough, so he also posts side A:
Then side B:
I think it's legit from the very first seconds of Seward Leaf. What say you??

To me, this is definitely sound like something pre-Twoism era. Noatak sound like Basefree. Seward Leaf like something from SAW II.

Sounds much more legit than any fakes I’ve heard before. Either James Loughton has a gift for making BoC fakes, or this is actually Hooper Bay.

Re: Discussion thread for the possible Hooper Bay leak
Ma repost from the speculation thread.
"Hello people. I have just been on a town walk with the video audio on. Debating authenticity, I feel the sounds, I like the samples and loops. It's a record minimal on hearing and layered with unease. I do think this is Boards-ian and I like it. Though, I'm not mad about it. But it kept me interested and in good company.
Good music comes with remembering not to overthink, learn from lessons of the past and continue talking. Tread carefully as this could very well be official. (and this discovery is probably a lot more important to you than it is to me.)
This is one of those times. Slow this bird down.

Re: Discussion thread for the possible Hooper Bay leak
would not surprise me if this's some kinda subtle lead-up to the new release / a proper release of the back catalogue.
I've been wondering what they'd do post-TH marketing, considering the grand adventure we all took back in twenty13, and wouldn't "randomly named dudes on Discogs posting grainy YouTube videos of back-catalogue vinyl presses" fit into their whole thing?
(this has been another hopeful but probably incorrect post brought to you by Twoism.org.)

Re: Discussion thread for the possible Hooper Bay leak
After listening to it a few times with a discerning ear, it sounds legit to me. It sounds like no BoC fake I've really ever heard, which tend to go "all in" in one particular direction. This is subdued, eerie, but has qualities in it that scream BoC. [emoji2373]

Re: Discussion thread for the possible Hooper Bay leak
Anyone have any info on the image on side B? Is it one of the faces from the cover? I'm patiently waiting for him to upload more photos of the album art.

Can someone share a link to actual entry on Discogs?

Re: Discussion thread for the possible Hooper Bay leak
Someone mentioned it looks like a negative of the side A image, and I agree.HamishUK wrote:Anyone have any info on the image on side B? Is it one of the faces from the cover? I'm patiently waiting for him to upload more photos of the album art.
I went over to WATMM, and the only comment I saw so far was "a good fake". Lol, they're always the last to be convinced

It is one of the faces from what I can see. Its hard to see but it appears inverted. The text is for sure inverted as its dark to the point it blends in with the lighting, but you can for sure make out "Boards of Canada" and "Hooper Bay"HamishUK wrote:Anyone have any info on the image on side B? Edit: After checking frame by frame, I can confirm its simply a negative/inverted image of side A.

The images look pretty amateurish but if BoC only made a handful of copies for friends and family, it makes sense why they wouldn’t put much effort into that.shelly wrote:It is one of the faces from what I can see. Absolutely. This would have been self-pressed. Do you really think the Old Tunes graphics are professional?bocnissanmaxima wrote:The images look pretty amateurish but if BoC only made a handful of copies for friends and family, it makes sense why they wouldn’t put much effort into that.shelly wrote:It is one of the faces from what I can see. Re: Discussion thread for the possible Hooper Bay leak
Side B definitely appears to have the label inverted, a quick and cheap way to discern the two if this was made 30+ years ago.
I downloaded the videos for safe keeping, I didn't use anything extensive like ffmpeg as the quality is shit anyways, and I'm at work.
There could be a few reasons why it was shot in such a poor quality. Depends on which road you want to travel to get to your theory. I think it was intentional, for whatever reason.

I'm a firm believer of it to be real at this point.

Re: Discussion thread for the possible Hooper Bay leak
Inverted the label for reference. It does look like it matches the one in the video for sure.

Re: Discussion thread for the possible Hooper Bay leak
Not in the slightest lol. I’ve just seen some people say that the low quality of the images on the record suggest that it’s a fake, when that doesn’t necessarily mean anything as BoC’s previous leaked releases also have amateur graphics.mthrndr wrote:Absolutely. ditto. allowing myself to believe we're in Phase 1 of the new era ... who knows how many phases this new era contains, thoughportiss wrote:I'm a firm believer of it to be real at this point.
