The same reporter from the same series, Susan O'Leary, interestingly does a segment called "Math and Mysticism" where she interviews Ralph Abraham about Music and Math. With Abraham of course having a strong connection (being part of the trialogues, were friends, etc.) to Terence Mckenna, who is pretty much the best candidate for the "Past Inside The Present" sample in Music is Math, I now wonder if Terence's sample is hidden in a Mysteries, Magic and Miracles episode somewhere..

Btw I've scoured endlessly for the Mckenna sample with no luck (got a lot of hits, e.g., best one being "the past creates the present" with the same inflections, just couldn't find a proper match for "inside").

damn, that story about them taping an exclusive interview when they visited her sounds kind of absurd now.

Do we think BOC processed the sample or is it more plausible that they spoke those words into a mic using Amo's words and used a vocoder?

That's A LOT of processing to do to get rid of the background noise/music and I'm sure those at are as well versed in Vocoders as I know the hell that can be unleashed if anything BUT a crisp, clean vocal is sung into them.

I can only imagine trying to work with that sample in the late 90's/early 00's. It's easier now. If they did, major kudos to their tech skills.

I've always found it quite straightforward to process any kind
of voice sample into a melody with a sampler and vocoder. You chop up the spoken sample by syllable and assign each syllable to a key/pad on your sampler then simply play it in a rhythm that fits, then use the vocoder for the melody.

Also, you don't need to filter out everything from the background noise, just enough so that the background gets lost in the mix. I just used a vocal sample in a song a while back that has a fiddle melody in the background, you can hear it clearly when the sample is solo'd but it's imperceptible in the mix of the song.

I would bet the farm on BoC using the original sample and not re-recording it.

I really just think they just time stretched it with an sampler with that feature, set the millesecond grain size to the smallest/fastest number and sent it through a vocoder.

I was able to almost recreate the vocoder patch with IL Vocodex and a simple sawtooth wave Serum patch. I certainly didn't get the chords right though lol:

From observing what I had to do in the vocoder VST, their trick must've been leaving the attack slow, the release fast and the high frequency passthrough turned all the way up.

plus there's the high frequency bird chirping which is also present in the appearance in the track, now that I'd think would be pretty hard to isolate in the late 90s/ early 2000s.

Didn't somebody reach out to Amo Bishop Roden and ask her about the brothers? Something about them contacting her and asking some questions, or maybe even visiting her at the compound? Or am I dreaming that?
