Decent tune. Nothing mindblowing, but still a pleasant listen.

I'm quite excited for the new record. I really enjoyed the comeback album they put out a few years ago, so here's hoping they still carry that momentum forward.

Looking forward to this, the comeback album was great indeed, as is the Minor Victories album.
Sugar for the Pill still gets listened to a lot here, let's hope for more good work!

So, what do we all think?

Personally, other than a few tunes, I found myself quite underwhelmed on the first listen. Definitely not a bad album by any means, but certainly one that's uninteresting and, quite frankly, predictable.

Perhaps with repeated listens, I'll hopefully learn to appreciate it more, but right now it's not doing much for me.

I was only a child when Slowdive were popular. However the new material isn't going to be as good as their debut LP. It seldom ever is for guitar bands. I look back on bands from the late 80s/90s and am surprised to learn many are still recording, touring and have even released dozens of albums since their peak. You have to wonder why they bother? They are not going to recapture their youth and there's something vaguely sinister about middle-aged bearded men singing songs from a time when they were generally clean shaven (this doesn't apply to Slowdive of course).

Haha, well, middle-aged musicians have to make a living too.

Seems like Neil Halstead wanted to try more of an electronic sound for this record. There are some interesting sounds here, but the songwriting isn't very good. It's better to invest time in developing an interesting chord progression or melody rather than twiddling knobs on your modular synth all day.

I didn't even really like the first single, let alone the rest

I was hoping I'd have warmed to this record by now, but sadly, I still can't get into it.

Kisses and Alife are decent tunes; probably on par with the stuff from self-titled. The rest of it honestly bores the shit out of me. It sounds like I've asked an AI generator to shit out a new Slowdive album by numbers.

Anyway, I've got tickets to see them in a few months and I'm looking forward to it, despite my disappointment with the new material. Maybe hearing this stuff in a live setting will finally allow me to appreciate it more? If not, there's always the old stuff.
