so, just for a possible timeline... Danny mentioned this about 2 weeks ago, after complaining earlier this year, possibly even last year that he had his album "Quaranta" finished and wanted it out, but Warp was holding it. he said that this album had been finished for well over a year and he was getting impatient with Warp.
today, Warp announced it, Nov 17 digital, Jan 19 physical..
no idea if this is truly relevant, but i figured it could give some insight into what could be going on with BoC since we did get that "confirmation" a while back about a new album.
seems like Warp pretty much dictates when stuff comes out, at least in Danny's case. i wonder if it's the same for BoC?
i would imagine they have a little more influence than Danny, but who knows.
Great analysis. The Boards of Canada record is confirmed to exist indeed and the record is clearly in Warp's hands now. I think they're personally hashing everything out, including the physical releases and the promotion campaign for it.
As we see on the cover of Aphex Twin's Syro, a lot of money and effort goes into a huge artist on Warp. We just have to sit tight and enjoy ourselves until the time comes for new BOC.
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

I'm curious why you say the BoC record is clearly in Warp's hands now? I've been lurking this thread semi-regularly, but did I miss some piece of evidence, aside from the social media activity (likes, Threads setup, etc)?
There's speculation that the "I feel good" deepfake video was them giving us the heads up that they were done, that was in 2021 tho (If I remember correctly) but again, that's just speculation.
Current theory is that they were done, then AI happened and they were like "ok wait a minute"
The Warp discourse is interesting. Let's see where that mess goes

Speculation from whom? I haven't seen anything like that. Also don't see how "I feel good" would translate to "we're not making music anymore."

"Done" as in done with the album or whatever.
yup sorry, I should have been a bit more clear about that. I am not going back to look for posts but when it happened I saw people speculating about that being the case. Don't shoot the messenger, I am not saying that is what the video meant.

MDG said the album was "On its way" which I'd assume means Warp has it and is in the process of releasing it (however long it takes.)
I think I actually speculated back in 2021 that I Feel Good was them celebrating that they finished the project.
We really have no idea what I Feel Good means but it does feel like a cheeky way to celebrate them finishing a highly sought after project. But your mileage may vary. Could mean nothing.

Oh okay, that makes a lot more sense. Yeah, I could believe that. I know it was two years ago, but VHS Head announced he was done with his 3rd studio album in 2020 and it was just released this year, so sometimes finished albums get delayed.

My opinion of course but MDG has been kind of irrelevant for 10 years. Album on its way in no way translates to imminent.
Personally, I felt 2014 was the cut off for a TH follow up EP. People were talking about that as late as 2016 but it really never made sense to me. I didn't feel any meaningful release was reasonable after that until shortly after covid hit and that pushed everything back. I felt 2022 was unlikely but not impossible, same with 2023. Next year we are either getting an album or a compilation.
Unless something goes horribly wrong, I don't believe Boards is the kind of band that does nothing for ten years and then announces their retirement a la Daft Punk. That's not their nature at all. They would release something and then tell us after the fact they were done for the foreseeable future. A bit like Radiohead. They're working and not talking about it. We're going to hear something very close to that something being ready to present and that will be soon.

Unsure how old the brothers are these days but I would imagine that if they both have families of their own with young kids growing up, it would potentially take up a lot of their free time for the past 5-10 years. (Speaking as a father of a 10 and 7 year old, I empathize completely.)
