Well put, totally agreed. The whole thing has a very powerful thematic impact
Re: Tomorrow's Harvest
BoC speaks in parables. I don't think it's possible to make a complete, cohesive guide to understanding what it all means without tearing the whole thing apart and getting lost in devils.
Re: Tomorrow's Harvest
I'll try a dumb, barely thought out, rough outline anyway.
Gemini is the whole earth comprised of two opposing forces, like the living and the dead. As we grow, we're led into a web of decoys and false promises. This web is under constant construction, built with the remains of the dead, to capture new life. A narrow, hidden path is laid down with ancient simplicity, but that path requires serious sacrifice. There are more spiders now, more decoys, all spying on each other, waiting to consume their fair share. A new method to lure more souls is through intense, emotionally charged messages, confusion, suggestion, 24/7. Now we go inside, it's filled with intense flowery imagery. This is where the strong or dulled sense of emotion and confusion play in. You pick a side. You repeat the mantra of that side until you accept nothing else. It's almost dark now, your numbered days are adding up. You decide to plant new life, in the middle of the desert. You die. Your spawn dies. The end.

This post made me feel even sicker than Arvy's. Not doing it. Also banned for a month.ParticleGhost wrote:PREFACE: If this gets me banned, then that's fine.
While i don't really care much for sam hyde these days (earlier youtube sketch stuff was pretty good up to world peace), Arvy's video got me thinking. Can you really listen to and process all of the cryptic cult references in BOC's music and turn around and in the same breath say that most of this modern LGBTQ stuff is not cult-like?
Now I don't have anything against gays and lesbians, but when there's sort of a whole "If you're not for us 100% you're against us and the most evil thing ever" as shown with the trans crowd, as well as pushing the whole "trans/queer kids" thing you can't look at it and not see it as some form of sly indoctrination akin to what most cult groups do? I could go on and on.... anyways, seeya later.
Friendly reminder that your mod is non-binary and Queer and knew I was by the time I was 7. I see right through this Anti-LGBTQIA rhetoric that is disguised as being seemingly innocuous, think of the kids BS. I've dealt with it my entire 35 years of living in the real world, I am not dealing with it (or having other members deal with it) on a Boards of Canada forum.
Now, back to grooming discussing the intricacies of Tomorrow's Harvest.

I joined this place fairly recently hoping to see some decent chat about BoC and other music with some decent people, but it seems a load of people who want to post videos by some guy I never heard of until 3 days ago on posts which are nothing to do with the topic. Are people trying to be 'funny' (using the term loosely) or just trolling? Either way it's a bit crap isn't it.

The world has unfortunately taken a turn for the right, so I'm not surprised reading fascist sh*t on this forum. It's merely the byproduct of people not being intellectual anymore and just getting informed by influencers and doom channels. However thinking BoC is in any way right-leaning speaks about the major disconnect between BoC and their listeners. They've warned us "the internet is evil" many years ago, precisely because they knew the kind of weapon the internet would become.

Regardless of which side placed the wedge in the current political climate, there's no question as to which has been loudly taking a sledgehammer to it with reckless abandon while yelling "Look what you made me do!"

Re: Tomorrow's Harvest
On the 11th anniversary of the US release of Tomorrow's Harvest, I have to say it's my favorite Boards of Canada album, and since they're my favorite band, that makes it my all-time favorite album.
Rare you get a record that only gets *more* relevant as time goes on. Every year we slip further into the global technocratic mass surveillance dragnet and the screws get tightened on our ever-evaporating privacy and freedom, presaging the desperation of the global industrial production empire as we approach the depletion of the finite fossil fuels that are its lifeblood.
Marcus said in a 2013 interview with De:Bug:
"Much of the energy for the album comes from written word, thinkers like James Howard Kunstler and Dmitry Orlov. These writers are like modern day prophets, and it’s a much more fertile source of inspiration than just listening to other people’s music."
I haven't read much Kunstler (just a bit of The Long Emergency) but I highly recommend Orlov's books Reinventing Collapse and The Five Stages of Collapse for anyone interested in digging into the context behind this record (or anyone with an interest in where our society is headed). I don't agree with everything he says by any means, but Orlov experienced the economic collapse of the Soviet Union firsthand and has I think a lot of valuable insight to contemporary global issues.

And now Orlov gets to experience the economic collapse of the Russian Federation. Seems that he's not much of a 'prophet' after all, since he supports Putin's fascist regime.SamuraiDrifter wrote: "Much of the energy for the album comes from written word, thinkers like James Howard Kunstler and Dmitry Orlov. Re: Tomorrow's Harvest
Western society is built on, and has been largely successful because of, the twin concepts of the community and the nuclear family. Over the last fifty years, the core upon which our society has been built has been eroded, in one way or another, by a variety of forces. What you consider those forces to be coincides with your personal beliefs. To conservatives, those forces are the irreligious and those who live nontraditional lifestyles. To liberals, those forces are the religious and those who uphold traditional lifestyles. Accordingly, we have seen an increase of strife and calamity in our society that exists in direct correlation with the erosion of our society, regardless of the source. How you view Tomorrow's Harvest has a lot to do with how you view this breakdown of modern society. I believe, as I think many others do as well, that in the world depicted in Tomorrow's Harvest, we will have to return to the concepts of community and the nuclear family that held societies together for centuries in order to survive. Because Mike and Marcus are adults with families that grew up in traditional households, I would argue that this interpretation of Tomorrow's Harvest is accurate.
