Let me recap if I am understanding correctly. Basically, according to you, a band like Boards of Canada should better not be allowed to engage in normal social media activity anymore (unlike any other band in the world), simply because they have a fan base that is looking for too much behind a lot of these cues whether warranted or not. You understand how contrarian this sounds, don't you?

Boards of Canada is allowed to do whatever they want, just as any other band is allowed to do. They are just doing their thing and the fact that we, the fans, react the way we react is not their problem and that should not stop them in doing what they want. The fans should never be a bottleneck in any of this.

I agree it differs from the other insta reels. The two videos combined in one reel represent all the promotional videos pre-TH era. Both were directed by Melissa Olson. The insta post only mentions Dayvan Cowboy. (i.e. Dayvan Cowboy (from the album The Campfire Headphase, Warp Records 2005) Video by Melissa Olson). This video is directly followed by a censored version of Invocation (the porn segments were taken out). While Dayvan Cowboy could be regarded almost mainstream, the Invocation video certainly is not.
Thanks to Fredd-E’s May 6 2024 analysis it’s easy to see TCH EP has not been a source of any Insta reels so far, but has been in two posts on X/Twitter and Facebook, both on 14-10-16. While Invocation is not TCH EP material it promoted that EP through the microsite and uses older material (parts of The Smallest Weird Number and A Is To B As B Is To C from Geogaddi, and even Old Tunes Vol. 1) (from Bocpages).

Since 2016 BoC has been posting old material: 40 video’s so far (41 if you count Invocation and Dayvan Cowboy separately). What if all those posts could be regarded as ‘an Invocation video’ (not its content but purpose or symbolism)? (If so, where is the porn?!? Sorry, not sorry)

Does the new development of posting official videos (thanks for mentioning this Fredd-E) mean they are moving away from fanmade material and will exhaust their official video material next? What will happen after they have done that? However, they could just as easily return to sending fanmade videos instead of something new. Or perhaps even post reversed versions of some songs.

Perhaps it's just a random post and who knows even AI generated? Well! I say to thee, pessimism is a choice I'm not making..

On June 9th of this year, the BOCset alongside a new album will be announced. About 5 months later, a 7 track EP of all new material will also be announced. And if I'm wrong, then it'll actually happen uhhhhhh next June 9th.

You did say they know the fans will analyze everything they do. So what? Should they stop posting because of that? Guess not. That’s all I wanted to say.

Sure MDG told us almost two years ago, but that was mainly to counter all the doomers who said BoC were done and TH was their swan song. We should be glad he put them out of their misery. And as always it takes time. Similar situation for TH, we had to wait four years after MDG’s confirmation of an album to come.

There is probably something coming but unfortunately these social media posts have left us none the wiser. One day there might be a subtle turquoise clue but the hexagon boy who cried wolf will only repeat ORANGE. Everyone will dismiss it as just another Twoism post. Typical… But eventually we will all realise that music has the right to have perpetually shifting deadlines and this thread could act as a distant seed for the next generation of BoC listeners who desperately yearn for a time when Mike & Marcus weren’t in the celebrity gossip holograms spruiking their new single “It’s An Apocalypse We Told You So!” The recognition of that feeling of nostalgia for the feeling of constantly being denied exquisitely crafted horror soundtrack beats with bucolic elements from the Scottish-Canadian nature will be recognised as having been perfectly captured on page 1147 of this thread. God Bless Fredd-E for your patience and reality checks, it definitely helps keep this thread together often lol. I too think they're moving towards a certain pattern of releasing videos, and if Reach for the Dead is the next move, then that will really be exciting, at least for me personally.
