'Iraq Says' sample source lead?

Post by Skimming Stone »

So I just stumbled across this essay from 1999:

https://www.everycrsreport.com/reports/98-386.html

In a section detailing air-strikes that occurred in Iraq on 13 January 1993, the writer comments that "Iraqis said the attack killed 19".

The date of this event would fall pretty squarely inside the appropriate time frame for the track (after the 1992 Terminator video game released, before the 1996 tape was made), so I presume the sample is a news report of this particular event.

Looking on BBC's programming history, I can see that Anna Ford anchored the 6 o'clock news on the day of the event and the day after, so it could possibly be from one of these segments, but I've had no luck in finding these clips as of yet.

Anyway, just thought I'd share this! Hunting down BoC samples can be surprisingly fun, and it would be cool to see more people give it a go.

It's definitely Anna Ford. "The Royal Family should be left in peace". That's Anne Diamond.

Update on my last post:
I've just found this clip on YouTube of the ITV broadcast the day after the airstrike on Iraq (14th January 1993):

Watching from 6:35 onward, you basically get the ITV equivalent of the sample we need:

"Iraq reported that 19 people [...] were killed."

so close...

So I think this pretty much confirms that we're looking for a 14th January 1993 news broadcast, presumably from the BBC.

Anyone with any ideas on how to acquire this, let me know!

Sorry to drag up an ancient thread but I think the female voice on "Iraq Says" belongs to Julia Somerville.

Here's an old clip from 1985 where she's reading the BBC News:
