Please god tell me they're not fans of Star Wars?

Post by Miltonic »

I wouldn't have thought so but I'm not sure. Stars Wars along with its sequels and prequels are so overrated and unsubtle. Yet for many middle-aged men they constitute high art. It was Star Wars which destroyed cinema by making it the special effects laden empty spectacle we see today.

Their influences always seemed more esoteric and offbeat.

As a fan of Rupaul's Drag Race, I understand market saturation when it comes to franchises, but I do not knock the cultural impact of Rupaul's Drag Race and I think of Star Wars in the same way right now.

I'd be more concerned if BOC's taste involved the MCU. ;)

Ian Chang who did the soundtrack for The Thunderbolts is a cool dude. He's made some awesome music, including these tunes with one of my professors:

That's loosely connected, only by proxy of the fact that my professor (Benjamin Brody) did a breakdown of Julie and Candy and BoC's production and it was fascinating

I'm not a fan of Star Wars, but I don't care whether they are.

Off-topic, have you watched any RuPaul's Drag Race UK at all? It's really hitting it's stride with the queens. Peak RPDR

It's refreshingly better than Ru's main show at the moment.

I can't watch anything post-2020 because that's when the full Late Stage Capitalism swing of the franchise started popping off. I can't complain though, I love that drag has gotten such recognition and gotten so big. That said, I watched the first two seasons of UK and loved them. There's also a drag queen in the UK (I think) named Tiara Skye who I've been obsessed with for years. Absolutely unhinged Instagram.

Right before I quit watching I watched the first two seasons of Thailand and was blown away. But, it got so overwhelming for me that I even stopped watching Dragula, and as a Goth-Adjacent Queer...it's bad if I had to stop watching Dragula.

Jasmine Masters, Katya, Kandy Zyanide, Bianca Del Rio, Tatianna, Saint, Landon Cider, Youvska, and Jimbo are some of my favorite Rugirls/Dragula girls. I loudly and ugly sobbed a lot when I saw Madonna on The Celebration Tour, and seeing Bob the Drag Queen so integrated into her show accounts for some of those tears.

PLEASE GOD TELL ME THEY'RE FANS OF RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE?

Of course they are, they grew up in the 70s, every single boy in the world loved Star Wars in the 70s and despite your somewhat cynical review of it, it fed young boys imaginations like no other film at the time.

I HATE HATE HATE what the franchise has turned into, but the second film (Empire Strikes Back) released in 1980 is just a mood unto itself. It’s the only film that isn’t cringe inducing and it has this awesome retro-futurism going on.

Now if only Hollywood would pick up The Killings at Outpost Zeta, THAT indeed is high art.

Empire is not only the best Star Wars film, but imo one of the best movies ever made. I adore it so much. I could totally envision the bros seeing that in the theaters for the first time and being obsessed.

With all the Darth Maul references on Geogaddi it's safe to assume they're at least prequel fans.

I'm a middle aged man and I think I can speak for many of my generation when I say that they're not considered high art, but the original trio of films were a huge, huge cultural influence.
Nothing wrong with that - after all, is this not a band to whom childhood/teenage memories are central to their music?
I mean there's a specific nod to this in The Campfire Headphase (can't remember the exact tune) -

- the producer of the A-Team - not exactly high art either.
