It’s probably going to be a disappointment… like that last remix.
Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
You’ve made it really clear you’re unhappy with the pace and direction of BoC’s releases and release TO COME.. We get it—but constantly dumping that on everyone else just makes you look like someone who forgot how to feel music. Maybe take a break from the forum until you rediscover why you ever cared in the first place.HarryNutsack wrote:It’s probably going to be a disappointment… like that last remix.
Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
the sample from Open the Light was one of the coolest things I've ever heard. And I've heard a lot of things.
and I'm pretty sure MDG saying something is on the way is the most outright confirmation we've ever gotten for any release. BoC has always seemed very deliberate in what they do or authorize.

There might be a better one, coming from the official BoC Facebook account. This happened on March 14th 2012, about a year prior to the RSD ARG.reflex17 wrote:the sample from Open the Light was one of the coolest things I've ever heard. And I've heard a lot of things.

source: https://pitchfork.com/news/45754-dont-g ... everybody/The recent flurry of activity was ignited on Monday when a fan posted on the Boards of Canada Facebook page, asking "Rumors of a new BOC album are rife? Any truth in this?" and Boards of Canada responded, "Yes." And that was all.
The fact that it was a public comment from the official account with many followers made it so special.
Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
ah good call, does make sense given the scope of the event(s), thanks for the clarification. Now also seems like a good chance to say I've been a reader of bocpages for many years, one of the best sites on the internet imo, so thankyou for that too. keep up the good work.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
I’m sorry, but that treat ‘em right remix was absolutely awful and I’m not the only one who thought that. I’ve been a huge BoC fan since 97/98 and I’ve never disliked anything they’ve created until I heard that. Tomorrow’s Harvest was incredible. Possibly their very best achievement musically.
If the new music goes in that sort of direction like that last remix then I’m not going to be buying it and I will talk negatively about it. I’m not one to bullshit myself or accept mediocrity.
To be perfectly honest with you. I thought it was a pisstake by BoC. Treat ‘em right’ - with the image of a wad of cash. I genuinely thought they were taking to piss out of those that bought it.

But that's on theme for the lyrics, right? And that was Nevermen's part of the equation. The remix itself was pretty good, had a kind of off kilter funk to it.
I find Nevermen hit and miss, their vibe can be off-putting sometimes, deliberately, and this was one of those times, I didn't much care for this track in particular. It's one of the ones you want to listen to the instrumental for. BoC clearly dig Nevermen and doing these mixes scratches an itch for them. Whatever I guess.
I much prefer their remixes for Beck, some genuine magic there. Kinda excited to see where they go with this sexual objects stuff, Sometimes was really cool.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
After BoC have released their new material, they should invite Zane Lowe over to the new Hexagon Sun studios for a one time in person interview, tare down the veil and reveal where the magic was made

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
I’ll admit that I didn’t like Treat Em Right initially, but it’s now my favorite remix. Same goes for a couple songs from TH. I’ve learned not to be so hasty. I am curious if the new album will hit our “sweet tooth” or whether they will continue to influence our taste with a new direction.

I feel the same way about Sisters and Mr. Mistake. They just get better with time.Davism wrote:I’ll admit that I didn’t like Treat Em Right initially, but it’s now my favorite remix. Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
I absolutely adore the remixes, especially the old, oft-forgotten “Broken Drum.” It’s one of the few BoC-related tracks I can play on the stupid, omnipresent “touch tunes” jukebox systems that dominate American bars. I only really play it early when the pub is essentially empty, as it is a bit somber—but I do particularly enjoy dropping “Oh Yeah” by Yello at peak hours. : D
I feel compelled to add that as a trained historian I really find it hard to believe that the mounting evidence suggesting a new release is being willfully ignored, and that people seem to think our favorite brothers would so callously and deliberately mislead their fan base. It just makes absolutely zero sense.

BoC mislead their fans ALL the time. Stop pretending they don’t. They’re constantly taking the piss out of us. I find it quite amusing.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
BoC shouldn’t release a new album, but what they should do is create a Boards of Canada pinball machine. That would be awesome. The ball loading sound could be the photo slide operation noise from Kid for Today.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
I am well aware of what MDG said. He confirmed the existence of a fifth album in 2022. That, however doesn't confirm it is still alive today. It might, it might not. So i think we should take MDG's confirmation with a grain of salt.Fredd-E wrote:1) Rest assured the brothers sign off on the design. MDG confirmed this earlier when he talked about the old merch.μasch wrote: 1) I must admit that this is not comforting. The merch is very basic and Warp Records could have created it without the assistance of anyone from Hexagone Sun (I'm not even positive that the promotional art was photographed by Peter Campbell).
2) The message on the website is most likely from an administrator rather than the brothers, but what does that tell us ? It indicates that the brothers have been on radio silence for so long now, that even their contacts are beginning to believe they are permanently retired and are now pulling the plug. So now they shut down the site that they know will never be used again and
3) Warp is milking the last drop of the fans with some shirts.
4) Let's be real, you don't use the phrase "nobody's home" to promote something to a community that has been waiting for more than 12 years. Unless you want to say that we are waiting for nothing, it makes no sense. Folks, this might be it.
5) Frankly, I'm perfectly okay with them retiring, tho I beg to be proven wrong. TH was, in my opinion, the ideal album to wrap up BOC.
2) The only thing that site change means is that this site is not actively used anymore. Does that surprise us? Not really, it's a 12 year old Tomorrow's Harvest ARG asset. This has imo nothing to do with any forthcoming music. I can only hope they don't feel the need to rehash an old website to promote new work. I believe they have more creativity in them based on what they've shown us in their 3 decades spanning career.
3) That's pretty sad to read tbh.
4) You said it yourself, no one would use "nobody home" on an old website to promote new a new album. Bit silly.
5) A few very important things you missed in your essay: MDG confirming there will be a new album in 2022 and 38 "new album" likes on their official Instagram in 2025. If these events aren't hopeful enough, I suggest having a look at the follow overview:
Of all these rows, only the Cosecha-transmisiones seems unrelated to new music, but I listed it.
- 2022-06 | MDG: "a new album is on its way"
- 2023-07 | Threads: "follow us for future news and announcements"
- 2024-01 -> 2024-12 | More and more video reposts on Instagram
- 2025-01 | A merch tab is added to BoC's Bandcamp
- 2025-02 | A new biography is added to streaming services
- 2025-03 -> 2025-05 | 38 comment likes all revolving the theme of new music on Instagram
- 2025-05 | Cosecha-transmisiones -> nobody home...
- 2025-06 | Bleep drops new merchandise + BoC liked bocpages' reel (ft. Trails) (that's a first)
I wonder what happens today at the Barbican event. It seems like a great opportunity for a new teaser. Regardless I hope for an announcement this month. In time for BoC's 30th anniversary August 15th.
Btw, i know some ppl like to be punchy with their skepticism. That is not my attention, what i'm saying is based on speculation as much as what anyone that says BOC is still active (you know since this is the speculation board

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
Boards Of Canada is known for being cryptic, that is true. Taking the piss on us tho ? I'm not a twoism veteran so i might be wrong, but from what i red this sounds more like something richard would do. If you refering to stuff like MDG conferming the bocset in 2008 and then not happening, this is not "taking a piss". It's possible for them to start legitamly doing something but then ending not finishing it. If ppl get mad at that, thats more ppl fault's than BOC's or hexagon sun's imo.HarryNutsack wrote:BoC mislead their fans ALL the time. Stop pretending they don’t. Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
Sure, that is a possibility, but a slim chance I’d say. BTW, he also confirmed it in 2023, this might be a small solace. Not long after that 2023 confirmation, BoC themselves on Threads advised us to follow them there for news and announcements. Great timing MDG. And here we are now, enjoying 38 new album likes, handed out in batches over the course of multiple weeks. This was not a one time impulsive shot. This seems very deliberate imo.μasch wrote: I am well aware of what MDG said. He confirmed the existence of a fifth album in 2022. That, however doesn't confirm it is still alive today. Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
people seem to have forgotten rather quickly that only a year ago, Peter Iain Campbell was uploading completely unreleased Boards of Canada to his Instagram story! seems like a blatant tease if i've ever seen one
