Re: is boc satanic in your view?
Religion isn't the mass mind control. As previously said it IS a tool. It takes cunning to recognize who's using it as the tool and who's using it as the weapon.
Re: is boc satanic in your view?
I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm well aware of their views, or at least the ones they've shared in interviews. You're not really responding to me directly so I'm not sure the actual point you're intending to make, but perhaps because I used the track title "From One Source All Things Depend" to refer to God unironically, you thought I was making an argument that BoC are pro-religion or something. Actually, I was just making a cute reference because we're on a BoC forum - it wasn't an intent to use BoC to back me up. I already know the background of their work.WATER_CAN-_- wrote:The In a Beautiful Place Out in the country EP features both an image of David Koresh and a reference to him in the lyrics. Geogaddi was sequenced to play at 66 minutes and 6 seconds, you have a song titled "The Devil is in the Details" and at the All Tomorrow Parties music festival, your films featured clips of people losing themselves in euphoric religious abandon. What gives with the cultish phenomena?
E: We're interested in all kinds of subjects, and I suppose we went through a patch of looking at cults and the mass mind control of religion and so on. We read a lot and pay attention to cultural events, but we view everything from a distance. We're up here in our observation point, gathering up data about all the weird shit that's happening in the world and spewing it out in some way in our music and visuals. The Davidians thing was about the shock of seeing the way the U.S. authorities handled it all.
In reality unfortunately, thanks to interviews, there's enough compelling context to be provided to support my assertion. They're doing all but spell it out for their audience.
My last response was to point out the irony of Mike's quote while you are vaguely quoting BoC scripture (interviews) rather than personally engaging in discussion, and also to make a broader point against Mike's quote itself - the delusion that the blind following of doctrine is somehow exclusive or excessive to religion/belief in God, and not just as present in the secular mind - which it is, and much more relevant "in 2025". It is easier to spot in in a religious mind, because of the way the superego - an internal authority formed by the social pressures of one's particular upbringing - visibly hijacks the place of God, thus making it much easier to point out and learn to overcome. In a secular mind though, the superego - just as present - tends to stay below the surface, attaching itself to a mishmash of ideologies, current politics, media happenings, secular doctrines ("art for art's sake"), etc. That makes it much more difficult to isolate, and for someone to become fully aware of the superego that rigidly rules the way they think & act.
You seem to be talking past me anyways

wow it's got to be weirdWATER_CAN-_- wrote:I think that for any person who still finds themselves taking this question seriously or worthy of consideration in 2025, let alone our modern age in general, I would say that geogaddi is evidently more about you than it is for you.May I ask as to why you chose to put the 1min and 44 seconds long silent track "Magic Window" at the end of your album, is there a significance?
Marcus: "Magic Window" is a phenomenon that creates an unusual frequency and influences the listener and their environment in a special way. On the Japanese edition of Geogaddi we have planted a bonus track "From One Source All Things Depend". It contains a variety of philosophical and religious sentiments...
Mike: This expresses the innocence of children who repeat the words and ideas of parents and teachers without much consideration for the true meaning or context. This can be seen as something both pleasant and slightly unnerving, on the other hand.
Re: is boc satanic in your view?
Not at all! I don’t worship celebrities and take their personal views as absolute truths just cause I like the music they make. Agency and confidence in one’s own beliefs and experiences is much more normal than hand-wringing over media-driven peer pressure. That a couple of musicians I like shared one of the most socially safe, banal opinions ever in an interview 20 years ago actually does not make me feel “weird” about believing in God. They’re humans just like me, they go grocery shopping. What’s weird is showing off an artist’s personal opinion as dogma, being pulled this way and that by the socio-political media god, while trying to be smug and reductionist about “religious mind control”WATER_CAN-_- wrote:wow it's got to be weird

know what else is also kinda really weird? geogaddi sometimes seems to function as a mirroreverythingyoudoisorange wrote:ok yeah - geogaddi that's the vibe even if that's not their overall vibe, of course
but I wonder, really, since so much of the music industry is tainted with demonic swamp creatures if our fellow lads dont practice a bit dark magic in their garage of their bunkers on the hills of Edinburgh.
I also looked more carefully at the horribly xerox'd album art of Old Tunes V2, and its a chick laying on a beach getting her tan on. I never even noticed what could be not starfishes but pentagrams there too?
Also, in Geogaddi's signed copy , a good old pentagram from mike:

Could be part of the edgy marketing too, like how they had listening parties at a chapel and church. I think that's where the promo kaleidoscopes were given out
Then there's the Geogaddi being a hexagon, like hexagon sun, except a pentagram fits perfectly in a hexagon and theres two triangles on the shoulders, Mike and Marcus, to deliver the goods.
Then the alias Hell interface, soylent night sounding straight out of hell,
The Devil is in the Details.
the list goes on and on.

then again some of their work is homage to the Karesh thing, but they aren't Kareshians as far as I know. though they may dabble in cult like behavior themselves
And their love for old media like Sesame Street and PBS and such, but that doesnt make them part of the cast of Sesame Street or a PBS reporter themselves.
its all so confusing
also - the most curious thing about geogaddi to me isnt the 66.6MB proportions of it when compressed down, or 66:6 length or any of that, though that is, but rather the Japanese Bonus track From One Source All Things Depend, with different sound clips of prayer to God. Tonally throws the wrench in everything for that album,
Re: is boc satanic in your view?
Absolutely, I agree! Art often expresses more than the artist explicitly states or intends it to, and when you can get past a wholesale acceptance or rejection of the face value message, there is much depth of insight into its creators & the creative process, understanding where they are coming from, and being able to reflect on yourself in it all. However I wouldn't say that Geogaddi is particularly unique for this. It is a trait of countless artistic creations throughout history, and centering one creation specifically, or one artistic group, is a pretty rigid way of thinking. Definitely out of place in - as you said - 2025, and the modern age in general.WATER_CAN-_- wrote:know what else is also kinda really weird? geogaddi sometimes seems to function as a mirror

There is one who tells us to Beware the Friendly Stranger. he is quick to accuse, to stereotype, and to point the finger at people we don’t know. he isn’t God.

Re: is boc satanic in your view?
This thread is making me think of that guy on YouTube who uploaded a bunch of BoC tracks a decade ago but then seemingly became a born-again Christian and pinned that silly, self-important message on all of his videos. He still responds to comments and is ADAMANT that BoC is of the devil. I personally think jumping at shadows isn't the best way to live your life, but to each their own
I wait, tense... then disappointed

"Due to unanticipated satanic activity, the release date of Trans Canada Highway, the new EP from Boards of Canada, has been brought forward to 29th May 2006 (a day later in the US)."
"Originally scheduled for release on 06/06/06 (perhaps to further their occult mythos), the release date was bumped up to 29 May 2006 (a day later in the US), due to what was described on the Warp website as "unanticipated satanic activity". The nature of this activity, whether it was directly related to Boards of Canada or not, has never been explained."

Re: is boc satanic in your view?
The great unmentionable evil at the center of our culture is monotheism. From a barbaric Bronze Age text known as the Old Testament, three antihuman religions have evolved—Judaism, Christianity and Islam. These are sky-god religions. They are, literally, patriarchal—God is the omnipotent father—hence the loathing of women for 2,000 years in those countries afflicted by the sky-god and his earthly male delegates.

No.
The question thuogh is what does Satanic even mean?
I was briefly interested in atheistic Satanism as a form of egoism or I-theism but it's largely derivative of the Objectivist writings of Ayn Rand syncretised with 19th century French occultism (e.g. the sigil of Bapohmet).
It's for pseudo-intellectual teenage girls who wear black.

They probably aren't, but it's an interesting topic containing a panoply of social signifiers which can be aesthetically incorporated into art with varying degrees of subtlety.
