Sounds good with my cheap headphones. Wonder why the vignette shows up twice.

Re: New rip of Red Moss
Not long ago I think someone was trying to do a new rip of BoC Maxima that they had on them. They posted a preliminary rip of it on Discord or something to that degree. That exact rip had the same problem of the vignette appearing over the top of the end of the track, which makes me wonder if that new rip comes from the same source as this rip of Red Moss.
Re: New rip of Red Moss
The vignette at the end is also on the Disengage Radio Show too. I think it supposed to be like this.

what are we thinking about this one?
This song is so dang good, glad to hear one that's better quality.
ALSO WHERE IS ANY NEW BOC RELEASE? We're totally starved.

We've got legit tapes and rips and then fake tapes of this and that coming out the woodwork right now. Awfully confusing

I agree. I am tracking threads here and on Reddit and trying to make sense of it allluminousdusk wrote:We've got legit tapes and rips and then fake tapes of this and that coming out the woodwork right now. Awfully confusing

this one is 99.9% legit. there's no way you'd get this high quality from remastering the current tape rips.MyKneesAreCold wrote:I agree. the shenanigans of afot/otv2/maxima seemed to be fake at first, but the sale of the tapes has been confirmed by mike P.
therefore they're real but OP got paranoid about boc getting mad at them or something (and i would like to note there is still no valid proof boc actually ever took down any audio of the old tunes - there has been drama in 2003 after the infamous april 10th leak on WATMM that tried to tamper up what the old tunes were, claiming they were not boc tunes but rather tunes from all of hex sun people, but that is not the same as taking legal action against a person for doing so - nor any of the old tunes sales have ever been taken down by boc themselves, the prince murat auction from 2005 for example was taken down by datathief, from whom the tapes were stolen from) so we're probably not getting rips of those even though they are legit...

The only proof that I am aware of regarding the tapes from Mike P was the screenshot posted on Reddit. I’m not sure where that screenshot was taken from, was it on a public forum? Not saying it’s a hoax, but a screenshot posted on Reddit should not automatically be taken at face value. Even if Mike P did confirm the tapes are real, doesn’t he have a history of trolling?niski wrote:this one is 99.9% legit. there's no way you'd get this high quality from remastering the current tape rips.MyKneesAreCold wrote:I agree. Re: New rip of Red Moss
the screenshot is from keyosc and well for the latter part, you can choose to believe he's trolling - i just don't really see why would he be. if you need something more concrete, when the reddit OP posted videos of the tapes playing (now deleted but we do have backups of at least one of them) the bass clarity was way better (i.e. "staircase whip") as well as some noise on "jimbo rehearsing" that isn't present on the shitty NRed rip (only real way this could've been done in a fake way is via reverse NR, which is insanely hard to get right for OTV2 - trust me about this one, i've spent around 3 years developing a good reverse NR method for that tape).MyKneesAreCold wrote:The only proof that I am aware of regarding the tapes from Mike P was the screenshot posted on Reddit. The screenshot of Mike P confirming their authenticity was posted by user Sdowww. I notice they're inactive on here, and one of the few mentions of their name relates to a fake file being uploaded to YT. Should they be considered a credible source of information?MyKneesAreCold wrote:The only proof that I am aware of regarding the tapes from Mike P was the screenshot posted on Reddit. The same screenshot was provided to sdoww by the original messenger, Biz on keyosc. As I know these two people, I trust 100% that the interaction with Mike Paradinas was not tampered with.wearestardust wrote:The screenshot of Mike P confirming their authenticity was posted by user Sdowww. Re: New rip of Red Moss
Things I have noticed with this Moss rip. (Alleged as indicated by the directory path) https://www.rareboc.org/alleged/
1. Having compared the existing Autechre rip to this rip it has become apparent that the two do not play at the same speed. When I sync the audio together it slowly drifts apart.

2. There appears to be some sort of audio aliasing artifacts, I have seen these same artifacts appear on the lossless rip of the Autechre live soundboard recording of their performance at Birmingham 1994. Iirc this might be potential artifacts produced by early lossless compression standards or some sort of sample rate stuff? (Idk kinda guessing here)

3. There appear to be clicks at the beginning and end of this rip of red moss. This happens when one cuts out audio from a longer original source improperly.
Specifically the waveform does not align preceding and following the cut of the audio file. Assuming this rip originates from a CD and that the mastering for these CDs weren't as high par as for studio releases on WARP I can see these cuts coming from the splicing of the audio from the original DAT source onto individual audio tracks to be burned onto CD. And if you put the individually separated tracks back together on a pc after dumping the audio onto wav files on a computer in lets say Audacity you can join the two audio tracks and result in this unintended click affect. This coming from both the QC not needing to be as high as for public release and the fact that most CD players at the time would take 2 seconds to load the next track anyways. That's my theory at least :3

So in conclusion if this is a fake then I see it as a really convincing fake as the aliasing artifacts are such an obscure aspect of early digital lossless audio or improperly set lossless audio compression. That along side the general improvement in audio quality as well as the clicks.
Although I do wonder if this rip was purposely shared with two ends of the preceding and proceeding songs just to add on the clicks to try and sell the idea it's real. But I don't see someone going THAT far to make a fake, right!? 0_0

Furthermore.
Even though the date the moss.flac file was added to the /alleged directory on rareboc by Mike was November of this year when one analyzes the metadata on the flac file it appears that the flac file was actually encoded on February 11th 2025.

Re: New rip of Red Moss
Are you reffering by chance to the "Dave" rips. Iirc these tapes were 3rd generation copies and were too worn to actually try and salvage them (fluttering like crazy)The Dookster wrote:Not long ago I think someone was trying to do a new rip of BoC Maxima that they had on them. I've posted these mp3s to Archive org here https://archive.org/details/maxima-a-do ... eased-soon

Re: New rip of Red Moss
That's actually just the release date for libFLAC 1.5.0: https://github.com/xiph/flac/releases/tag/1.5.0Flory wrote:Furthermore.

Nothing special.
