The Lighthouse (from Warp Party)

Post by EdmundFtzgrld »

I recently saw someone post their original ticket from the Warp Lighthouse party. I never really gave the venue much thought and decided to look it up. The Trinity Buoy Lighthouse, apparently the last one still remaining in London, is still going strong.

Today, it seems to serve mostly as artist spaces as well as a large room for events (weddings, conferences, etc).

Looking at pictures, I believe I was able to place where in the room the brothers were actually set up. There are some very distinct windows and huge sliding doors which are unmistakably behind them in one of the only photos from that event. They are plainly visible in the recent photos below. The hardware looks to be unchanged.

Two things stood out to me:

1. Looking at the people in the photo below for scale, it appears the stage was actually elevated a good bit off the floor. For some reason, I had always assumed they were basically playing on the floor.

2. It appears that those massive doors were open for at least a portion of their set, based on the wall being visible through the window. Mid-October in London, it must have been a little brisk - and I’m sure the room smelled like The Thames.

For anyone who was privileged enough to be there that night, I’m sure this is all very unremarkable. But for such an ethereal band, it’s pretty neat to be able to actually place them somewhere in space and time.

That recording is 25 years old…I very much hope to be at the next one!

I always assumed it was a smaller space based on the above photo but, until now, I've never noticed the audience member stood in the bottom left corner. The screens displaying visuals must've been elevated at around 7ft, rather than at eye level like I previously thought.

Underrated post thanks for sharing.

it is interesting how our brains fill the gap with our imaginations from limited photos and low quality rips.. almost like janky vague 2d/3d graphics in retro video games :P

that's not at all the space I was imagining from the one (or two?) photos that are out there.

Bless the rogue audience members that had tape recorders in their pocket during these shows. So disrespectful they couldn't just shut the hell up though, some of them having full on conversations audible during the quiet parts of the set.

I was there.

I was a raised stage with barriers in front.

It was absolutely packed in there and very very hot.

Sound was top notch considering the space was just an old warehouse .

its interesting that not all artists' sets were elevated, seems some were essentially on the ground level from that other thread of Imgur pics
