Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
The VHS tapes need to be checked for information that might be hidden in the non-visible part of the frame
FYI: Some data can be recorded in the non-visible portion of a VHS signal (the vertical blanking interval). You should really take a look at this reference:
That would be the ideal place to hide a title / release date / url / whatever

i hope someone who has a modified VCR with software vhs-decode capability could recieve one of these tapes so we could properly look at any potential hidden data... i absolutely would be able to do this real quickly myself if a had a tape but i massively doubt i'd ever get one cause i've only placed one order in the past lol

Don't cicadas come out every 13 years?
Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
ALSO, I just discovered video steganography and I'm really excited about the idea of finding hidden images embedded in the original video https://github.com/Amritaryal44/Video-Steganographyjf wrote:The VHS tapes need to be checked for information that might be hidden in the non-visible part of the frame

EEEEEEEEE!!! Thanks. I'm so EXCITED!!!!

Definitely think looking at the vertical blanking interval has a lot of potential. Hopefully one of the recipients can look into it.
This really doesn't ultimately matter, but I can't help but wonder if the most recent merch drop of new BoC clothing/etc. was a "test/entry" into being selected for this, only way to verify would be to ask all the VHS owners if they bought from the most recent merch drop though.

Amazing seeing all this start to unfold today - cannot believe it's been 13 years since last time!
Was at Camber Sands last week right next to the derelict Pontins, had a listen to the unreleased tunes from that gig and was thinking how sweet it would be to finally get some new Boards this year. Choosing to believe I helped will this all into existence
New Lone album this week too, can't wait - glad to see he got one of tapes!

Couldn't agree more! And yes, as one of the ancient ones here, can confirm he was (is still?) a forum member. We are fortunate to have a host of fantastic and talented artists on this board. Its always so nice to see everyone come together for these exciting times. I went to bed pondering "I wonder if there will be any PAL/other format tapes discovered by the time I wake up tomorrow?"portiss wrote:Lone receiving 1 of these copies is indeed the nail in the coffin.
He used to be a member here right? No way he is involved in some elaborate hoax.
Happy hunting guys!
This community never disappoints!
Now back to it....

What are the countries/states/cities the tapes have been sent to? (so far)
Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
Someone on reddit found that there is apparently a release scheduled on the spotify backend.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
Tried claude code on that signal at the end. Can't decode it after about an hour of trying lots of different things. It says:

Two separate binary FSK signals, each ~1.4 seconds long, buried in VHS audio. Each switches between ~2550 Hz (dominant) and ~3400 Hz (faint) tones.
Confirmed:
Segment 1 verified across two independent tape recordings (1.flac vs t3_1.flac) — 22 HI bursts with matching widths. Pulse widths range from 3ms to 87ms.
What it's NOT
SSTV, Morse, RTTY, Baudot, DTMF, Hellschreiber, spectrogram-embedded image, or any standard amateur radio encoding we tested.

While the 2013 ARG was incredible, I'm inclined towards thinking this one may be a bit simpler... as in these tapes are just a non ARG-like promo that new material is coming, and soon? Just spitballing here

I lean that way too.
I'm wondering with all the images of the radio stations, satellites, Christian imagery, that the theme will be a mix between "space" and their idea of "worship" music? The Pioneer Plaque still feels relevant.
Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
I can agree with that, there certainly is possibility that there may not be a "trail" to follow here like back in 2013, but there are certainly enough breadcrumbs we may as well take a peak and see what we can find, I got nothing better to do! (Besides work my 9-5 job I guess)ParticleGhost wrote:While the 2013 ARG was incredible, I'm inclined towards thinking this one may be a bit simpler... as in these tapes are just a non ARG-like promo that new material is coming, and soon? Dropping a new album teaser on the eve of a potential nuclear war is some timing, you have to admit.
