I'm heading for 57 this June (Born June '69!), following them since In A Beautiful Place In The Country came out and I'm as giddy as a teenager!RVeldhuis wrote:Checking Twoism and reddit keeping up to date with all the hysterics. I'd just finished high school when the last album came out. Now I'm fucking 30+, and yet I feel as excited for this as I did when I was that young shitbag.
Definitely feels like 2013 again. I do wonder which kind of theme the album will be, since the world hasn't been getting much better since 2013 imo.

I thought it was a record, but yeah with that white plastic of the container at the top right and bottom right, could definitely be a tape reel.SmokesQuantitys wrote:To me this looks more like a spool of tape than a vinyl recordpepsichallenged wrote:

I don't know if those could be edges of a plastic cover visible in the pic. Does it look too big for a typical reel-to-reel tape though? They're usually brown too but the pic actually is brownish.SmokesQuantitys wrote:To me this looks more like a spool of tape than a vinyl recordpepsichallenged wrote:

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II

I saw this and at a quick glance it looked close enough but the grooves aren't deep enough. Anyway doesn't really change much, they were listening to a master tape of the new record
Or would they realistically do that in the 2020s? Does it signify listening to old tapes instead? I have no idea.

Just some late night thoughts.
Looking at the current transcript, it ends with "call now". There's a chance we could be looking for a phone number. Any chance someone with the tape could look over the physical tape itself for clues? I've no doubt there's something hidden within the audio or visual of the tape, but to cover all bases we should be analysing the tape itself.

Yeah this is what made me thought the other photo was tape, see how you can see the squiggles in the grooves on a record?Altruizine wrote:

I dunno that they'd release anything on tape, but maybe that picture they posted meant "masters done" kind of thing.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
I always thought it was a spool of tape too, like they were working with reel-to-reel. So more of a studio work in progress pic than a test pressing
Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
It's definitely more likely to be a test pressing of the new record. It was posted in June 2024. The other items on his profile don't suggest he's the kind of person to share "here's me in the studio" kind of stuff.
It feels like a huge milestone. And this week we have another big milestone in the roadmap to LP5.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
Mmm I dunno, you'd think if it was a record there'd be more obvious track gaps, no? Unless it was a mixed through album or something. It's a bit more detailed in the Instagram original I'll admit but it's still reading as tape to me
But yeah, it's an exciting time

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
After using reel to reel tape for 30+ years and producing vinyl from it, this image is a tape reel. No question. The flanges are a dead giveaway and the grain spacing. I have a 1” tape, a 1/2”, and a 1/4” in front of me. It’s tape.Negamuse wrote:Mmm I dunno, you'd think if it was a record there'd be more obvious track gaps, no? Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
The picture isn’t him saying “here’s me in the studio”, it’s an obscured closeup shot that’s visually interesting and matches with the aesthetic of the rest of his posts just fine. By your logic, the other posts on his profile do not suggest he’s the kind of person to share a milestone.Fredd-E wrote:It's definitely more likely to be a test pressing of the new record. Also timeline wise, I don’t know why it would be a test pressing. Maybe they’ve been sitting on the album for some time, but I would figure test pressings come very late in the process.
Also it simply looks more like tape than it does vinyl

Whatever it is, it was significant enough for him to post back then. And it kept us busy.
And here we are this week with new stuff on the horizon. Mission accomplished.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
While I never lost interest in a new album, over the past year I'd say I certainly began to not care about it so much, and I’ve generally adopted a less 'obsessive' approach to waiting. The years of countless hoaxes and speculation leading to nowhere had grown tiresome, so I distanced myself from the hype train.
However, catching up on the last 20 pages of this thread has definitely instilled me with optimism. Initially, I wasn't convinced when murmurs of a random VHS tape began to emerge, but with everything that has occurred since, it's hard not to get excited.
I think we're in for a treat!

You’ve done a much better job of keeping this community afloat over the years than this picture. Your efforts in running BOCpages have been invaluable, and even when it seemed like this week wouldn’t come you were always optimistic, so cheersFredd-E wrote:Whatever it is, it was significant enough for him to post back then. I've adopted the GRRM approach of not caring about anything till it seems remotely real.
On another note I did not expect BoC to drop an album before George dropped a new ASOAIF novel, if you would've told me that after TH I'd be laughing at you

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC PART II
I can say, for sure, at the moment, there is NO information on a RSD release by BoC that has been provided to any registered Recordstoreday UK participating store.
*Edit to add - If there was information and it was embargoed, I wouldn't have posted anything here, due to participation rules of RSD lol
