i mostly see a bluish lake/shoreline with that boys face imposed over it… maybe there is a lady by the lake facing away from us but i mostly see a lake with a shoreline and trees in the upper left corner… again probably ink blot effect lolAntares wrote:The second image looks like it has a blurry image of a dark-haired woman in a long skirt being projected onto the face. She is facing away from the camera mid-movement as if twirling. Is anyone else seeing this or am I crazy? It could also just be an effect from the shadow of the nose.

Those really do look great, darker sounds are my favorite in their work, so happy to see this campaign seems to be leading so something more dubious again.llydia wrote:I wonder now on close inspection if the liquid on the posters is blood? If its blood, that is really hard core! Its been a while since we've had some proper edgy 2000's vibes. Feels like promotional art for "Dawn Of The Dead". We've never really had lots of blood in boards of canada stuff before. Makes me think the sonic territory of this album is going to be extremely NIN...jcnporter wrote:These look greatWildfire wrote:The Japanese posters are square and look a lot more like gatefolds now....

Well, I’ve barely posted on here throughout the years, but now seems as good a time as any to break that habit. I’m as excited about this as I was for Geogaddi, many years ago.
A couple of things that ring true for me.
I’m expecting some music to be released in this lead up, whether as an actual single or as a snippet from the album (I’m assuming it will be an album). Some have already mentioned Zane Lowe’s broadcast in the TH build up, and I can see something similar happening now. I’ll be listening to 6Music this Sunday, as they’re celebrating RSD Fri-Sun, with Sunday being their album focus theme for the day. Mary Anne Hobbs’ show might be worth a listen.
I love the posters being interpreted as gatefold/inner sleeve images. It’s messing around with the idea of format, as does PAL/NTSC for the videos.
It all feels like an old school promo campaign, nothing forensic.
Btw, a huge thanks to Fredd-E and all the mods for keeping this board going.

If anything, Pitchfork have gradually become the opposite of that since their acquisition by Conde-Nast and have embraced being full poptimists. They're too busyh reporting on Coachella to say anything about Boards.Chodlington wrote:Pitchfork are a bunch of beard stroking, pretentious cnuts who probably think they're too cool for this.nordheim wrote:Yeah, I think Lowe will play a part in debuting something as well. He has a pretty good track record of being the DJ acts go to. Him or Mary Anne Hobbs... I mean the guys have a 6 Music debut written all over them too...Mr? wrote:You lot are mental!
It’s a new album, tune your radios to the usual channels. Zane Lowe will have the exclusive no doubt.
I also predict that some window in an abandoned/rented building in some urban area will all of a sudden have some projections playing in it... What will it be playing? Good question.
Also, a weird thing I noticed. Pitchfork, while going downhill for a good decade, hasn't said a single thing about the rollout. It's interesting to me that they haven't had a single story about it. Conspiracy types would say that it's because they will play a roll... I think it's probably not that, but their silence has been surprising.
Anyway, stoked to follow along with you lot on here.

There's definitely something here. 4 posters. April is the 4th month. Those kids without eyes actually used to be called "four eyes" due to their glasses, but no longer since getting poorly done LASIK.Wildfire wrote:The bros have never really used 4’s much in their work have they? As a notable number. And so the only reason I can think of that they are showing us 4 graphics is because this is indeed their first double album and these are the gatefolds.

Was reading an old TH era interview and this Marcus quote stood out for me, speaking on the TH campaign...
Makes me wonder if that means things will be ramped up even further this time around.Marcus wrote:We were involved with the art direction and we helped devise some of the ideas but we had a really great team of people helping us to make it all happen. We really wanted to bring back a feeling of anticipation for new music that has largely been lost in recent years, mainly because of the internet. As with movies these days, everybody already knows absolutely everything that happens in a film before it even hits theatres. It kills the magic. So we were trying to figure out how to get younger listeners to experience some kind of buzz for the record in the way we used to as kids, which is really difficult to do these days because kids can have everything they want, almost at the press of a button.

There’s a discussion on Reddit suggesting this may actually be a trolling campaign for the new Aphex Twin album. I hope it’s not true, but if it is that would be hilarious

I was about to say something similar. That would be a major conflict of interest on warps behalf.ryetronics wrote:Does anyone really think Warp would be that stupid?BodyOfChrist wrote:There’s a discussion on Reddit suggesting this may actually be a trolling campaign for the new Aphex Twin album. Just to add to my previous post on 6Music and BOC.
The 1996 R1 session version of Aquarius was played on Riley and Coe last night. Tonight they are playing another BOC session track (I’m listening to find out which). I can’t remember ever hearing Riley and Coe play the same artist/session on consecutive nights. Kind of runs against their style to repeat stuff. Monday night’s Aquarius session was also mentioned on Huw Stephen’s show this afternoon.
I listen to 6Music all the time. This is the most I’ve heard BOC played or mentioned. I wonder if something new might appear there
