How come this feels like a goodbye?
Maybe I’ve just been through hell
Re: How come this feels like a goodbye?
It does sound like a farewell, but then people have said that about every release since TCH. If it was really over, they would definitely tell us straight. I am confident about that.

The sombre/moody tone is unmistakable... as if they're telling us that the bleak future they predicted in 2013 has come to be our reality.
And yet, the second half of the track is hopeful & optimistic in my opinion. As if they're saying: 'Keep going, don't give up, all is not lost.'

Farewell Fire was 2005. Just saying. If they were going, they'd have gone by now x
Re: How come this feels like a goodbye?
There is a user on here who has claimed somewhat believably to know someone who knows someone or something, and he said LP5 is the last. Idk
Re: How come this feels like a goodbye?
That's so interesting, I get the exact opposite vibe to it - this is what your hope comes to. Look at the world you almost had. I keep saying bitter sweet. It's a mix of sad and happy and I don't know which way it's going to go till I hear it in context.GeoDose wrote:The sombre/moody tone is unmistakable... as if they're telling us that the bleak future they predicted in 2013 has come to be our reality.

God it makes you think though, I love it. Maybe I'll flip on what I feel like it means down the line

It’s a goodbye. The new album ships with a potassium cyanide pill to follow BoC back to Andromeda.
Re: How come this feels like a goodbye?
To my understanding this release will fulfill their contractual obligation with Warp

Like I said in a previous post. There is a global effort to bring about the eschaton. And manifest Christs return. BoC know this. Have done for years and are referencing it in their music. It’s all there. All the Christ symbolism etc.
We’re reaching critical levels of decline and despair. The greatest method of motivating people is to encourage a strong faith in the Devine. It works. Nothing else works like. Without it we have all that existential angst that demonic energies feast upon. It will continue this decline until that final shimmering light returns.

Love this. And I love the whole vibe of the project so far.Negamuse wrote:That's so interesting, I get the exact opposite vibe to it - this is what your hope comes to. Yet to see how the poster imagery ties in though. It feels very separate visually.

Optimistic was the wrong word to use - I really don't think this will be a 'happy" or "upbeat" album.
I would be perfectly fine with a middle ground between TH and TCH, but with cult-themes reminiscent of their 2000-2002 work. The more ambient & downtempo tracks of 'Campfire' were my favourite parts of that album.
Re: How come this feels like a goodbye?
I would bet my paycheck on the brothers being very involved with the VHS tape visuals, but not being involved AT ALL with the poster design.fujee wrote:Love this. Warp probably just hired some graphic designer to make eye-catching posters that people would recognize as being related to BoC.

All of this activity coincided with Easter Sunday as well as much of the western world experiencing a decade's-worth of Cold War levels of fear of nuclear annihilation condensed into a single day.
I dunno if it's them saying goodbye, but it still feels like it's goodbye to something.

Re: How come this feels like a goodbye?
That's what I remembered too, so, bocset under greener pastures maybe? or as a heavy bargaining chip for Warp to open the bank? Who knows, the industry has changed dramatically between TH and LP5, and between TCH and TH, etc.KunFuzi wrote:To my understanding this release will fulfill their contractual obligation with Warp
Who knows. But I am pretty sure that this wraps up their contractual obligations with Warp.

Re: How come this feels like a goodbye?
No, they have an open-ended contract. Similar to other big Warp acts.KunFuzi wrote:To my understanding this release will fulfill their contractual obligation with Warp
Re: How come this feels like a goodbye?
I agree this feels like a completion… the Tape 05 video itself may even have footage sampled from National Film Board of Canada movies. They’ve said they’ll always be making music though, and I’m remembering an interview where they mentioned that a member of Cocteau Twins asked them to release music on their label and that they’d like to if they weren’t contractually obligated to Warp.

I disagree. TH era interviews tell us they are very much involved with artistic direction for marketing new works. Warp may choose media placement and the length of the campaign itself, but the content still has to be signed off by the band. Given how careful they are with everything else, I really can't see it otherwise.GeoDose wrote:
