Listening more, and I have to say again that it reminds me of the first track on the R35T tape. Just love it. I'm so excited for this release.

BoC fans from all over the world are reuniting to celebrate the impending release of a new album. So much joy all around. Sometimes I'm reminded that the internet wasn't a complete mistake. FeelsGoodMan

Been rattling the walls with my JBL soundbar. That drop. The video. The whole track. Fuck.

Here we all are again, another April to remember.

Cheers.

I'm actually jealous that you have that discovery left. :-)

If that is a nod to Lid and McBride then that just makes it all the more special.
I have listened to A Winged Victory for the Sullen and Sleeping Dog. Still need to get into The Dead Texan, and basically all other SotL albums.

Just need to find the right mood for it.

Any suggestions on how to dive into this?

00.00 - 01.45: “Intro”
01.46 - 03.21: “The Constants”

Elaborating on my comment a while ago in the other thread that it sounds like a Tomorrow's Harvest Dayvan Cowboy...

The chords to Tape 05 are: Dmaj, F#min, Emaj, Bmaj.

The chords to Dayvan Cowboy are: F#maj, Amaj, Emaj, Bmaj.

That's already a bit similar but if you key change the latter up a fourth (Bmaj, Dmaj, Amaj, Emaj), then "phase shift" it (Dmaj, Amaj, Emaj, Bmaj), you then have something that differs by only one chord from Tape 05 -- Amaj in Dayvan vs F#min in Tape 05, which are 'relative' major/minor.

In Tape 05, the Dmaj in the F#min context is very Tomorrow's Harvest, almost the essence of TH harmonically.

But the Bmaj against the F#min tonality is IMO kinda the source of that hopeful/bittersweet quality people are talking about, and that is not heard much in TH, or really all that much in their discography (Dawn Chorus a notable exception)

Hello everyone - it’s about 7 years since my last post on here, and after reading through a few of the threads this evening and seeing loads of older users logging back on I thought I’d have to pop in. The new video is fantastic. Sounds to my ears like a cross between TCH and TH, and it’s this new music and the images are ambiguous enough to make the wait for the whatever is coming so tantalising. Mightn’t post again for a bit, but it’s wonderful to see the community having something to get our teeth into again. Really excited for everyone and for what this release is going to be, it’s great to be part of this again!

Very, very exciting….

Initial thoughts… to begin with it sounds like a straight progression from TH-era (and knowing them could well have been recorded around the same time?)… but with that little bit more “warmth” - the acoustic instruments making themselves more clear (the HARPs!)… then it just keeps progressing into something else entirely - not quite euphoric; that isn’t the right word… but more “open” maybe?

We’ve all made the comparison 1000 times, but like MBV - they have their own sound that dozens of artists have tried to copy (no bad thing!) but they have that unique little extra *thing* that no-one else can get near.

What a fucking band…

I think this might be a bait release. Like Tape 05 is seemingly a Nostalgic "return to form BOC release"

But think about it, BOC sent out all those tapes that were suffering from "generation loss" and when you consider the promo posters are all visionless children, I think the point of the album might be akin to the Caretaker's Everywhere at the End of Time. Basically, the album isn't about cults but rather the non-fungibility of memory and media across time and ultimately the entropic degradation of both. Hence why the promo media features weird allusions to cults without any seeming deeper purpose narratively, because BOC are initiating the viewer into what would be quite a high concept album by cannibilising their own lore as the "cult guys".

So the aimlessness of visual references/radio references to the cult selling the flexi-discs is actually supposed to emulate how culture already "remembers" BOC and how that is already one step removed, one step degraded from the original history and work.

It would also explain why the BOC website is covered by a "glaze" that distorts even the UI buttons like a cataract style filter and why the background is the Scottish Pentlands (home). Basically, it's going to be an album about aging but focused around memory entropy.

All the best bands have this intangible quality. You hear it and go 'Yep, that's unmistakeably them'.

When the hexagonal grid becomes apparent in the video, the rotation reminds me of Geogaddi and the kaleidoscope.

I agree with your point about the fact this could have been recorded years ago. Who knows how much COVID delayed everything and whether they took that time to change things and add a few years to the release.

First got into BOC some time around 2008 or 2009, and was a firm fan when TH was released. Time moved on...

It was only a couple of months ago when I got back into BOC after a long break that I would be the only member online here. And now it's exploded. The first new music from BOC for nearly 13 years is a killer track. Bleak, yet uplifting as well. I love the bit at 2:31 where the organ comes in, and I never thought that I'd hear a harp or pizzicato strings on a BOC piece but it makes sense with their move to a more cinematic direction. They're not kids anymore and their music has matured with them.

Super-excited to see what is to be released. I have signed up on the website. I'm behaving like a teenager, and I'm 58 years old, FFS.

Hey brother I’m 44 and am behaving like my 6 year old daughter over k-pop demon hunters. This is a safe space. Been a massive fan for over half of my life and I have absolutely zero shame about it, and how I’m reacting to the unfolding events.

I’ve thought about this too… the cosecha video was set to the end of New Seeds, and then Reach for the Dead was released.

Also, the Tape 05 music is making me think of Echus.

Tape 5 reminded me a bit of Hi Scores, think it was the chord sequence that did it.

Being a jazz fan I keep thinking of "Take 5", the old Dave Brubeck Quartet piece in 5/4. Hopefully BOC will release a Tape 4, 3, 2, 1 as well. Can only hope.
