Re: NEW BOARDS OF CANADA VIDEO [Tape 05]
Yes for me it definitely gives IABPOITC vibes! I was at work when they posted it and my headphones have been in repair for two weeks now, but knowing I had to do things after work and wouldn't be back home for hours I just couldn't wait and heard it on my mobile's speakers. I just now got home and was able to listen to it on a good sound system. My impression is similar to everything I've heard from them from TCH onward: different to everything that came before while still being *so very them*. I'm so stoked to hear whatever they have been working on.

It's beautiful. What a comeback! I showed someone who doesn't know BoC and they instantly said 'Ohh that's nice, is that Turkish music?'. Then showed them the video and they liked the retro imagery, made them sad.

I've only listened to this a few times, I'm pacing myself. But it's a beautiful track, gets better with each listen! The build up is lovely. The harp(?) was unexpected but works brilliantly, something new and fresh, while the synths are unmistakably BoC.
The video is also fantastic, loving the themes the album is going for so far!

I'd like to think it's the new Wildlife Analysis or Gemini.soupbandit wrote:I wonder if this will circle around as an official single and music video

Maybe pacing is the way to go. For some reason with this one, it feels like getting hit with spiritual high voltage. Also Techboy made me go back and listen and get jolted again, it does feel...'performed'? And it feels like an album intro to me. And the intro to it reminds me of old assorted tracks. Good to see yall btw <3

Welcome back, BOC. And thank you. You've been needed for a really long time.

Although compared to Wildlife, Gemini, as well as Ready Let's Go and Rainbow Vein, Tape 05 has much more of a 'plot'/story arc whereas the others are somewhat static.mechanismj wrote:I get the same vibe.KoA wrote:That was my thought as well, an openerzeoevil wrote: I'd like to think it's the new Wildlife Analysis or Gemini.

There is a very interesting beauty to extreme religious/spiritual devotion. It is fascinating to see people experience a pure devotion, a sense of completion and understanding as to self-definition, a true sense of purpose and direction. To know exactly where they stand and feel comfort in the resulting simplicity of thought; an unburdening. To decide what to follow and rid yourself of the worry as to searching for where you must go to find answers. They find an incredible sense of joy that is difficult if not impossible to find elsewhere due to their sense of absolution. They are so sure in their devotion that they will go to great lengths to defend it. Unfortunately, this has led to incredible tragedy, but seeing that this state of mind exists is one of the most fascinating and strangely beautiful things to behold in human nature. The brothers have definitely honed into this largely untapped representation of spirituality in the world of music; to show the beauty and the horror at the same time. It's honestly one of the most fascinating aspects of the human race. It's makes for some of the most engaging art.
This song sounds like the odd beauty of recognizing both the tragic and beautiful nature of spiritual extremism at once. I'm so glad they have this as a music video. The song is gorgeous, but the song is only half of the art. The song is the mood and the video is the context for the mood. We needed this context. I really hope we get more videos. What a beautiful project this is turning out to be.

Great post! Very well put and I fully agree.747Music wrote:There is a very interesting beauty to extreme religious/spiritual devotion. I also love how it shows a lot about the listeners themselves and the filter they are seeing it through. Like with From One Source All Things Depend, if you look up comments on that track you'll see completely opposite interpretations of it, likely due to the listener's own views on religion/theism.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that Tape 05 will not be a full track on the album. This is like an abbreviated version or something
The video also doesn't quite feel like a 'music video' per se. The whole zooming out hexagon feels more announcement-y.

After watching it again, I think I spotted a bit of reinforcement to my observations. At around 37 seconds in you see mold growth formation: Something that developes into incredibly unique shape but is commonly beheld as harmful/disgusting. Shortly after, you see a snowflake: Also something that developes into incredibly unique shape but is commonly beheld as beautiful.squid wrote:Great post!
