Everyone on reddit is complaining about the vocals and comparing it to synthwave... I understand that it's hard to meet expectations after 13 years but the brothers delivered and it personally exceeded my expectations for a single release.

I'm grateful that after 13 years of lurking on here there's still a lot of real fans who appreciate that we even got new BOC and seem to have a deep understanding of their sound.
That subreddit is really awful

rodox_head wrote:If we go with the concept of TH being the start of a new trilogy of albums, I feel like it would end up mirroring the first. The way TH is constructed like various interrupting radio broadcasts fighting for the same frequency, or cutting in and out from someone turning the dial themselves, would reflect the mixtape-esque structure of MHTRTC, which was based on more positive memories of early childhood.

Geogaddi, whilst aligning with a post 9/11 mostly coincidentally, is almost like a mental collision of ideals where we're constantly deriding ourselves over our own perceptions of good/bad, right/wrong, and real/fake. It's not so much saying we're doomed, but that things can get scary sometimes, and peace is achievable and demonstrated with the last few tracks (and I include FOSATD as the true final track as an epilogue of a sort). Alpha & Omega proposes this idea of being truly in control of our own destiny (for better or worse) before winding down into the more psychedelic and meditative side of the album.

The Campfire Headphase is like a naive, yet not wrong, sense of hope as one grows through adulthood. The pacing of the track list is calm and smooth in comparison to its predecessors. No "Sixtyten"s or "Julie and Candy"s to be found, just the soundscape of enjoying everyday life, but eventually the concept of time catches up with you. Things are changing, slowing down, you start to get a little more depressed over time, and you wonder if this is it as the internal fire starts to fade into mere smoldering embers.

So basically, I'd expect it to be a more Geogaddi approach in the next LP, and if Treat 'em Right is anything to go by, I predict the usage of dark techno, industrial sounds, possibly a heavier emphasis on percussion (the beat was incredibly similar to "Breakbeat Etiquette" by Omni Trio). "Vessel" by NIN would be an example of the kind of sound I'm thinking of. "Year Zero" was essentially NIN's "Tomorrow's Harvest".

Avoid Reddit. Just walk away.
It's really hard not too when I visit it almost daily. The fans there have really left a sour taste in my mouth and I can absolutely see why people say it's full of bots now.

Twoism however has never let me down.

The sheer crunchy cripsy massive detail on the FLACs with a decent pair of headphones - wow....
Wow yeah. On bandcamp the beat sound like an average synthwave beat, but on the flac you can hear how the kick is bitcrushed and the snare is completly wet in the flanger. It's definitly much closer to industrial than synthwave actually.

It does connect to the whole Pioneer Plaque thing a bit. There's the hydrogen thing. The video has all these silhouettes of human figures. Also, the video has some mathematical bits like the sin function and the spiral plotted on axes -- could be interpreted as artifacts we'd try to show aliens to demonstrate our intelligence.

μasch wrote:Oh and idk if this was already said before, but 1420 MHz is the frequency of the Wow! signal. So i guess Inferno has some space themes in it, but with the whole "god the ultimate resonance" theme, i think the overall album is aiming towards the vibes of cults that mixed space, science and religion in weird mixed ideologies, kinda like Heaven's Gate or Raëlism
yeah I've been thinking of this as well, Tomorrow's Harvest was about collapse and perhaps Inferno is the phoenix like rebirth after the apocalypse - the track titles imply a far future, space and time travel or at least a departure from linear space-time

the kicker is, this could all be a grandiose narrative of a vision, perhaps even just the experience and perception of someone in a cult or on spiritual quest or on the verge of perceived enlightment. an epic journey looking inward and leaving behind the past - past history, past memories, existing media, even the collective notion society and humanity.

Yes, same. I only read and write here.

There is so much to say about the new music. I'm stunned.

Really? I can totally see them putting a fade out on the track for the single release just so it doesn't end abruptly, but who knows!

Musically, I am intrigued and engrossed by this and I feel like it's come full circle to their earlier work before Hi Scores and MHTRTC including stuff we can only speculate on like Wheeltower. The visuals Beatty did feel more abstract, psychedelic, and original versus their past sample and "collage" reference heavy work. I don't want to say it's a big departure, it's absolutely adjacent to past work, but there's clearly been a shift for sure in my opinion and I'm grateful as a fan to see what Inferno ends up being as a whole.

This sounds like something from Marshall Applewhite's tapes. I'm not sure, but imo i wouldn't be suprised if this is the vocoded voice origin

love both tracks, 'introit' might be my favourite boc intro track now and 'prophecy at 1420 MHz' is on another level while being extremely distinct from their previous work. those + tape 05 are making me super excited about the rest of the album

What a fun experience! Introit is such an amazing title card--so many layers to it. The tabla recalls Alpha and Omega, and I'm wondering if it is the same sample. I was stunned by the amount of sounds and textures they put into all of this--and I laughed with joy when the beat and the guitar kicked in. Much more of a bright sound than I was expecting from so much of the marketing. I'm a happy guy. So grateful BOC have come out of the bunker/pub to share their work with all of us.

P.S. It is funny that reddit and perhaps other places have people's immediate reactions--whether they like/dislike it. So many people have been trained to react rather than pause and take things in--liking/disliking is the most boring way to engage with art. I hope to completely ignore all of it.

Fuuuuu. Sounds like the Cure meets the Cocteau Twins meets Kraftwerk. I had no idea what I was expecting, but not this, and yet, it delivered. I have no words to express how much that hit hard. What a great entrance, and a great counter stance to Tape 05 (which I also loved).

This is my attempt at lyrics:

End
Nothingness
Comes to
The Greater Awareness of Itself
Behind Intellect
I am the truth
Descension(?)
The question of reality
Consciousness
I am God
The Ultimate Resonance
Spirit
I am the soul respecting
Unconscious
Transcendence's Force
Secret Consciousness
Power
This insensitive image? of the modern world
The? scientific view of nature
Synchronicity
Consciousness
Has operational effect
Cause and Effect
Nothingness
The Absolute Truth

Their 2000 album 'Effector' is amazing as well. You'll likely dig it.
