Re: 01. / 02. Introit / Prophecy At 1420 MHz
I appreciate all the comments on these tracks, which I rate as amazing and exactly what I hoped for. A couple thoughts I had I thought were interesting:
1. The thing that takes 1420 to the next level is the skittering rhythm that goes into full effect around 2:10. It's undeniably head nodding funky, restrained jungle, and a contrast with the rest of the vibe (psychaelic / spiritual). In a weird way the rhythm/pulse reminds me a lot of the "dirty funk" of early 70s Miles Davis with the legendary rhythm section of Michael Henderson (bass), Al Foster (drums), and Mtume (percussion) . If you want exemplary tracks "Rated X" from Get Up With It and "Moja" from Dark Magus. Grooving out while listening to deep distorted cutup spiritual dialogue is just fucking "WOW".
2. While first listening this morning I was attempting to wake my elem aged kids up to go to school and misheard the most obvious lyric sample as "I am God. The ultimate PRESENCE." It really hit me hard, and i was looking around at room ambience, windows, and doors, etc. In any event, I know its properly "resonance" on subsequent listening and net research, but it will also be "presence" to me in a way, and goes to show how the vaguety of a lot of the vocal stuff really makes BoC so powerful.

I've listened to it 3 times properly. I'm not completely blown away yet, like I was with Reach for the dead 13 years ago, but I have a feeling it will grow on me. I think it's still kinda hard to say whatr this album will sound like really.

Just so - when I noted the time it was while listening to the track downloaded off bandcamp. In the video it's 1:31, correct. My bad if I was confusing.TaoTapeTao wrote:They might be referring to the track itself as it is on streaming?armotron wrote: what drop at 0:55? i don't hear any guitars until the drop at 1:31...

I've read this post about six times and I think... I agree with you about it. I think I'm in accordance.747Music wrote:Although I disagree with the message, this is one of THE greatest pieces of art I have ever seen. Incredible. I understand what they are saying and see why they would say it. It seems to me that they believe embracing nothingness brings them certain freedoms and comforts. Freedom from mind control from predatory religions. Comfort in being able to let go. Beauty in seeing the fragility and uniqueness of what our lives are; knowing there is no permanence. The lyrics in the song Nothing Is Real accuse Jesus of "offering eternal life when you knew it was not right." Anyone presenting the idea of eternal life to a human will absolutely change how they then think and act. Unfortunately, that has led many humans down a dark path. That dark path horror show is represented by the bold religious visuals we've seen with Inferno. Prophecy at 1420 Mhz boldy contrasts those who support the mind control of the idea of eternal life to those who embrace nothingness. The latter half, after "god" speaks and reassures that nothingness is truth, that seems to be where it represents how embracing nothingness leads to the beauty, freedom, peace, and comforts that follows. It's just you and your loved ones. We are our own spiritual element (pic of weird family from video and shirts). Embrace and believe in only ourselves. This album may be their own statement as to spirituality and the human condition. That our spirituality stems from a sense of self and our idea of a God is basically just because we instinctively recognize there are certain numbers/patterns/ideas that resonate with us and everything around us. But when we die, truly, there is nothingness that awaits us. It seems to be presented in a way that's more than a flimsy fictitious statement for the sake of a cool concept album. With Introit being a pre-worship ritual, 1420Mhz being the frequency reserved for listening to messages from "out there", from non-human sources. Seeing the titles of the tracks to come. They look like they are fighting cult-like religious mind control with it's own weapons. This is their presentation of their own spiritual statement. The cult of BoC is nearly here and there are no Blue Oysters involved, lol.![]()

I'm hesitant to speak much deeper than that as the internet isn't a good place to have divisive conversation. Conversation may get heated here these next several months. Please just remember to be kind and respectful of each other.
Despite disagreeing with their statement, I have watched and listened to this again and again. Robert Beatty absolutely nailed the video. BoC absolutely delivers the phenomenal music. Utterly amazing.
I sincerely hope there will be video to accompany the entire album. Doubtful, but as I've said about TAPE 05, the music feels like a message and the video feels like context. But perhaps we have all the context we need. Perhaps Robert has just done such a good job that it's hard to imagine hearing the rest of the album without visuals.

I forgot to mention the percussive textures toward the end that resemble the sound of the snares in Orange Romeda.Den wrote:I may be projecting, and it’s satisfying for me to think about it this way, but it feels like they’ve been revealing the new direction of their sound in since 2016 through the Nevermen Remix work and Societas X Tape.Den wrote:Yes, I’m feeling connected to my instincts because after the Mr. Mistake Remix was released I remember thinking “I hope their sound continues to move in this direction.”
The ‘live’ drum sound in Prophecy At 1420 Mhz evokes the Mr. Mistake Remix, and the groove feels connected to Treat Em Right.
There vocal cries and OM sounds in Mr. Mistake sound similar to some of the vocals in PA1420 Mhz. And there’s the Hindustani flute line at the end of Mr. Mistake - the flute that begins the new track also has a Hindustani-like timbre but they’re detuned. I think we may hear more Indian Classical influence throughout Inferno (I’m also thinking of the M. S. Subbulakshmi track on Societas). Industrial raga.
Also, did anyone notice that the percussion in the outro of PA1420 Mhz sounds like gamelan?

Re: 01. / 02. Introit / Prophecy At 1420 MHz
Here's my revision of Ryeimo's lyrics, I think I got one line correctly that most are missing, the bit about power:
When/End/Then (?)
Nothingness
(comes to equilibrium with the sense of self?)
with blind intellect
I am the truth
(Decension?)
The question of reality
consciousness
I am God, the ultimate resonance
the Spirit
I am the soul, (respect me?)
Conscious, transcendent force
the seat of consciousness
power is, in a sense, the religion of the modern world
the scientific view of nature
Synchronicity
Consciousness
Has operational effect
Cause and Effect
Nothingness.
The absolute truth
When/End/Then (?)
Nothingness

Conscious, transcendent force

I regret saying this a bit because the video is extremely well made and highly detailed. It does suffice as a proper "music video". I wonder what it is we're seeing? Some visual synthesizer?Altruizine wrote:I wonder if we might get a second video and single? This felt a bit like a visualizer.

I'm on something like 60 listens now, I can't leave it alone. The second act, after the guitar leaves the mix, is just astounding. I genuinely think Prophecy is one of the best things they've ever put out. It's such a powerful, clever composition, with so many little layers and details. The rising synth counter-melody with the vocoder is paced beautifully. Absolutely love it.

Re: 01. / 02. Introit / Prophecy At 1420 MHz
I've listened to these two tracks like 15 times already or more.
It totally SLAPS, develops, grabs you to another cosmic-robotic dimention, and gives you comfort with their signature short tracks, I can't believe it, choosing that as the single for the album was like the best present they could've given. Like I was being taken somewhere. The DRUMS are strong, the sublimnal whispers are present (105% sure), the atmosphere swinging between mild and slightly dangerous.
They seem to understand their strong points and utilize them in an incredible way.

I think this is an accurate take. And while I also disagree with the message, as a Believer, I believe they were given such a great talent. God declares, "Behold, I am making all things new," - Revelation 21:5
And yes, Beatty absolutely nailed it. Especially towards the end. Masterpiece all around.

Full agree, I don't want to confidently make any generalized assumptions but the feeling I have is that a lot of these folks on Reddit may be younger fans who have mostly listened to BOC on Spotify or something. Claiming this new BOC is derivative of synthwave is not a good take.llydia wrote:Just want to point out, my wife, who is a defacto metal head to the maximum. And, I shared this one with my brother who is also into heavier music and never previously was particularly into BOC, but I think he'll appreciate the bit of edge it has. As new of a direction as it is, it feels like exploring territory that was touched on in some of their earliest-available works but not plumbed publicly by them since. It's really cool.

The zero-energy universe hypothesis proposes that the total amount of energy in the universe is exactly zero: its amount of positive energy in the form of matter is exactly canceled out by its negative energy in the form of gravity. Some physicists, such as Lawrence Krauss, Stephen Hawking or Alexander Vilenkin, call or called this state "a universe from nothingness", although the zero-energy universe model requires both a matter field with positive energy and a gravitational field with negative energy to exist.
