I read this as a tongue-in-cheek conspiracy theory take on "is the sky blue?" or "is water wet?" As in, "of course there's going to be warbled tape on a Boards of Canada album!"

In fairness, isn't it already present with some of the instrumentation/texture of the first two tracks?

We're just having fun. Besides, it adds some tasty depth to things. Would it be Boards without a little noise mixed in the signal? All good here.

For sho, it's present in those two tracks as well as Tape 05 (which I'm still hopeful is going to be track 5 on the album, 'Father and Son.')

Seen a few people say similar, that they have their fingers crossed Tape 05 will be on the album. Just curious why? Wouldn't you rather it not, and have it be a fresh track instead?

Or, if you consider Dante's Inferno being a descent, it could start from relatively clean sound and descend deeper and deeper into a dirtier sound as it goes. Media decay in real time!

Then that super deep drone comes in like braaaaam, someone kills a flautist and it's all goth guitars and "END. NOTHINGNESS".

I've mostly caveated my "I do not think Tape 05 is on the album" posts with the idea maybe there will be a mixtape quality to Inferno.

Yet still, Tape 05 feels almost inseparable from the video to me - it was an extremely impactful aspect of this anticipatory period before the new album.
