Americana is mostly good; I haven't listened to SF59's whole catalog though; so yeah listen to Milieu. I'll send you a link to some of them as they're doing the rounds in the blogosphere. (by the way, there are so many blogs out there uploading tons of rare shoegaze stuff, i think you're right disavowed)

but yeah: Silver, what an album...

It's not that being Christian is a bad thing, but that I find Christianity to be a little bit jarring in certain contexts, i.e. rap and rock.

I have a religious folder in my music archive, I listen to Gregorian chants and hymns and stuff like that. It just depends on the format for me. I don't like tracts mixing with electric guitar.

I still haven't dove into artists like Ride, Swervedriver, Chapterhouse, and Lush. Can someone recommend some good albums from these guys? This may have been mentioned earlier in this thread but I'm lazy and don't feel like going back through the whole thing.

Lush! So amazingly great...

I'd start with Gala, that's my favorite. Their later albums (Lovelife) are a bit more pop than shoegaze per se, but Gala covers all that "wall of sound with beautiful girl vox" ground nicely.

back in my britpop days I used to listen to a Christian band called Haven and hey I'm still a godless heathen... I pay so little attention to lyrics that I'd probably listen to skinhead shoegaze if the melodies were nice!

I'd recommend "Nowhere" and "Going Blank Again" by Ride. Especially "Nowhere", their 1st album.

I second that! "Ferment" is a quality bit of shoegazing! Chrome is a bit less shoegazey but still crammed with some top tunes (Strange Fruit, The Nude)

Anyone here ever heard of Mew? It's like a toned down version of Muse meets a version of Monster Movie on steroids. Very melodic, been compared to the shoegaze scene.

Fuck yeah, it's all about Apocalypso! I've found a few other good tracks here and there and I listen to them from time to time but they're not really one of my favorites.

What about For Against. They've got a great mix of early REM new wave, the more gothic Joy Division, New Order, and The Cure, and a helping of Shoegaze thrown in for good measure. Check out the Echelons album. CLASSIC!

I think Slowdive should open up a store where they sell flacs of all of their material scattered across all of their eps. The label has started putting the material on the backend of their albums (i.e. Souvlaki) but always in a half-ass, "here's part of the ep if you want it and good luck on Ebay if you want it all" kind of way.

Case in point: I think Slowdive's "Shine" is probably one of their very best tracks. But is it readily available? No. Why? Who knows. Money probably. I wish they'd make a b-sides and demos comp (sort of like they did for Nirvana, only not in a half-ass way) so that I can enjoy all of this stuff on CD because man.... some of it is just so, so good.

"Shine" is also on the "Just For A Day Re-Issue". I think it's pretty easy to get ahold of.
