I don't know how trustworthy that notion of a 5 LPs contract is. Do we have any actual source for this?

They already said multiple times in interviews that they're making music all the time, and that they'd still be doing it even if no one was listening. I don't think they'll stop, but who knows maybe they'll want to depart from the BoC project at some point.

And it's not the first album that ends on a farewell note, see Farewell Fire for example… I guess that's just their usual way to end their transmissions to us.

They do have one more album left on their contract with Warp though, something to consider.
I thought the contract was for 5 LPs. Is it 6?
2005 interview after TCH release said 3 more.

Hell, if you listen to any of their last tracks on any of their LP's they could be considered farewell tracks. People that say this are just projecting, it's based on thin air. Of course it can sound like that, but that doesn't say anything at all.

Could you link to the interview or provide a direct quote? I can't find anything like that in the interviews on bocpages.

The only mention I found was this interview from 1998, where it was vaguely said that MHTRTC is "the first of five".
I wonder if it actually all stems from that, which isn't much considering it isn't even a direct quote from the bros. But who knows what else was said off the record.

It's in there.
Uitdagingen genoeg, voorlopig.
Now it's not a direct quote but I take it they have to green light an interview before it's being published. There is quite some personal stuff in there aswell, nice read in general.

But again of course not sure how trustworthy it is but it has been said during the interview I guess.

Projecting what exactly? I've never had this feeling about a BOC album before. I'm generally not the pessimistic type, but it's more of a feeling this time that I can't shake. I'm completely fine with it too, it is an immaculate discography to me.

Not to burst one bubble in all this, but per Fredd-E:

New contract with WARP, shopping around, doing it piecemeal? Independent or their own label again?
They have an open ended contract. I've mentioned this before in another topic.
Based on this interview, I don't think they were saying they had a five-album contract with Warp.

I think they had a five album plan from the beginning for the arc of their discography. See the Giraud's Mirror thread for some interesting related tidbits, especially the shape of the mirror itself!

Thanks ottomatik and gazebo4! Interesting that these two sources conflict and neither is a direct quote. In any case, the Warp arrangement seems quite favorable to them (considering they were allowed to have a 13-year gap between Warp releases) and to Warp (such a popular release that it crashed Bleep). So I wonder if either party would really want to part ways at this point.

Okay projecting might've been the wrong word choice here. But I mean it's based on gut feeling and it just a bit of a stretch. I'm not saying that you do but if you take it for some sort of personal belief then it's easy to start seeing patterns or coincidences that don't really have any objective truth to them. But of course we are all free to speculate so its alright.

But I agree if this is it I'm more than happy already with all the awesome music that they've shared, just hope it's not the case obviously and I don't really see any signals that this is the end of the road. Tbh I gave up waiting after all those years of silence after TH. But here they are again!

I feel this, I've been feeling like I need to slow down a bit with some of my analysis (not just BOC but other life things) because of this exact sort of thing. BOC can drive you a little crazy (I mean this as both a cautionary statement and a compliment to the band).

Speculation: ON

The reason the credits on Inferno are the way they are, the 13-year gap, the absence of interviews or even of any related visuals of the actual creators, all of that can be explained by one simple bit of overthinking: What if BoC is now more a legal entity than a fully two people working band with contractual obligations, what if there was a rift between Mike and Marcus, what if the fact that Marcus has only a handful of tracks collaboration is because the skeleton of those tracks was done say 10 years ago and there has been endless attempts to reconnect, with life intervening, births, deaths, illness or just change of interests, passions, etc. and no resolution, and that after 13 years, someone just said well, gotta make a living, let's dash this out. BTW bleep/warp, can you please maximize the sales and the consumerism related to it because there is no telling when another album might surface and there's a need for a fat cushion of moulah to ride it out?

Speculation: OFF

Warp/Bleep sure ain't fast shipping to actual Canada... ordered Ltd Ed red vinyl on 1st day, crickets...

Just a refresher:

MDG: "At this point, the box set of early material is looking 99% likely to happen. I say that because it hasn't been finally compiled yet. There's a big archive to get through, the obvious tracks that were on various demos and mixtapes given out to friends in the late eighties and early nineties, but also a huge amount of unreleased material that hasn't surfaced so far. There are hundreds of tracks for every year from say 1986 through to 1995, and then for every record BOC have released there are a mountain of tracks that didn't make it onto the record. So the time involved is the only issue from what I understand. There's been regular debate across here about what goes on them and in what order etc. But if you can be patient, these tracks will come out, and a whole lot you won't have heard yet too. Asides from that, let me just say once again for the record, there's a new album coming out first, and maybe more.

No dates yet, but they are definitely coming."

We now know the new album is/was Inferno.

Sorry, I should have included the source. This was August 2008. For some reason I've always had it in my head that MDG meant the album coming AFTER the next album, which at the time was going to be Harvest.

That would have made the next album TH then, maybe the BOCset has indeed been shelved. Making that 99% chance all the more cruel.

I hate to not drop the bone, but, on the open-ended contract (that fredd-e mentionned) I did not find any source for that except for said mention by fredd-e.

99% likely you say? I'm not sure if anyone knows XCOM but this is like the go-to meme for those who have played the game enough
