A few comments about my red vinyl

Post by noveltywave »

I have the Japanese version.

1. It sounds great
2. It smells really bad. Whenever I open it up I feel >>bleurggghhh<<. The other BOC records don’t smell like this. I may get the black version if anyone can confirm it doesn't stink!
3. I was surprised Father And Son was on side one, thinking it was going to be the first track on side two. However, after multiple listening stringing Capricorn and F&S together makes a lot of sense.
4. The disc two break, starting with Into The Magic Land really feels like entering part 2 of something.
5. My copy was filled like this, from left to right gatefolds: disc 1, disc 2, picture book. The placement of disc 2 was really hard to get in and out so I have swapped it with the booklet and put it in the right side gatefold. Anybody else do the same?

Mine smells bad as well. Also there is some prominent sueface noise throughout.
Maybe I have to try giving it a wipe with a wet cloth.

I haven't listened to my vinyl copy yet, but as I was transferring the discs to archival sleeves I concerningly noticed that there was a small "grain" of red vinyl--like sand--in one of the two sleeves holding the records. I wonder if this is happening with others' copies and scratching some more than others in transit?

No smell or debris in mine, I'm very happy to say. The cassette is also odourless, other than a faint hint of cinnamon and hipster.

is Japanese version made in Canada (NA bound), Czech Republic (EU bound), or somewhere else?

have you tried giving it a good circular swipe down with a record sponge + liquid to eliminate debris?

Ngl a pungent smell would actually fit the record. Not because it ”stinks” but you know what I mean

Definitely going to light my "souls of the damned" scented candles for my next listen to Inferno, arranged in a hexagon of course. Kinda smells like barbecue...

Oof - That sounds unpleasant!

My red copy does not smell, and is free of surface noise, BUT I have read a few comments on discogs mentioning surface noise on the red AND black versions. And two comments mentioning the smell as well!

Is it normal for the sleeve to sigh and groan a little when I open it? Also ever since I played it my apartment started having electrical problems... I also think my stuff is getting moved when I'm not looking? Is anyone else having this?

The parquet flooring near my hifi shelf has started creaking in a spot where it's never creaked before, and only since playing inferno a couple of times at home. I am not kidding!

Can confirm my red vinyl is odour free. I remember eons ago getting a sealed copy of Chemical Brothers - Live at the Heavenly Social when it first came out and it absolutely reeking of chicken tikka massala for months upon first opening it.

Nice! I honestly felt the inexplicable urge to watch Rosemary’s Baby after my first listen.

Here's one that contains real chili flakes! Lol.

I'd love to know if you can smell them when putting your nose to it:

Those who know me, know my actual order would be Chicken Tikka Dansaak, Sag Aloo, Keema Naan and pint of Cobra if you please, thank you very much my good man.

Rolls off the tongue I find.

Good lord; that sounds incredible right now

(Although I’d go veg pakora, North Indian garlic chicken, garlic naan, Poppadoms (& all the dips), pint of Kingfisher).
