I don't miss VHS at all

Or any physical media for that matter with the exception of LaserDisc.

VHS was inferior to Betamax and I seldom used it except to record the occasional TV programme on blank tape.

While I wasn't sad to see VHS go I never liked DVDs either.

Betamax is miles better yeah. I like physical media because it also decorates the house. I think there are movies that are better on 8K ultra super quality (like 2001: A Space Odyssey), and there are movies that are better on nearly illegibly degraded tape (like Yor: Hunter Of The Future).

As a delivery mechanism for things, no. But as a cultural phenomenon where just through using it people all over the world would end up creating montages of random stuff they collected off the airwaves. All those little places where there's a few seconds of whatever you recorded over that peeks out between two things you taped over it with.

All those little accidental windows into abstract, ephemeral transmissions, now out there in junk shops labelled "3hr blank tapes 5 for $1"

VHS is the bomb, i bought myself a deluxe VCR - there is something about the hazy nature of a vhs playing you can't replicate elsewhere.

Yeah, I don't see myself plopping down on the ol beanbag chair to watch a VHS tape any time soon.

However, I have slowly been digitizing my parent's old collection of em. Kind of a fun nostalgic project. Especially for the old commercials.

i'll give VHS this - you put the damn tape in and the thing starts rolling. DVD menus had their charm (and certainly DVD extras are now things you often simply can't find anywhere else), but waiting for their little sequences to load and navigating whatever cute menu someone decided to make could be a little annoying, too

Betamax was so much better, our first family VCR was a Sony Betamax and it worked amazingly well, the quality was light years ahead of VHS.

I don’t miss vhs one little bit either, clunky cheap crap.
