The beginning of this track makes me think of William Basinski stuff.
Re: 03. Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan
Yeah...I definitely get the Basinski inspiration. I also get a gy!be "vibe" from it too.Ender wrote:The beginning of this track makes me think of William Basinski stuff.

That beautifully degraded string sample puts me in mind of 'The Beach at Redpoint'
...what subtlety?

honestly this makes me think a bit of some Boreal Network, on a later listen!
Re: 03. Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan
Redpoint! THAT's what it reminded me of! That's awesome.
I'd like to quickly acknowledge & appreciate that Inferno has a few tracks that are reminiscent of their previous full-length albums. This track and few others remind me of Geo, 'Memory Death' and 'Deep Time' remind me of Tomorrow's Harvest, 'Introit' and 'I Saw Through Platonia' remind me of MHTRTC, and then 'The Word Becomes Flesh' and a couple of other tracks kinda resemble TCH production-wise.
And yet, it also all sounds so fresh & new! Brilliant album. I'm officially addicted.

When that opening synth starts up, I immediately thought of "Touched" from MBV's Loveless. I think it's the glide into each of the notes.

Yes, only just noticed it on my 5th+ listen on what happened to be a different sound set up because I was at a friend'sHelios wrote:Does anyone else hear some sort of chant in the distant background in the second half/last third? I can only pick it up on headphones , but I swear it’s there.

Maybe this is about how evil is intrinsic to our universe? The runtime is 4:44 and 4 in the bible represents the material universe (it's the day where supposedly God created the sun, moon and stars, and it ties to the four elements, the four cardinal points, the four seasons, etc), which also ties with hydrogen, helium and lithium being the first elements to appear with the Big Bang.

OMG, I hear that now!Helios wrote:Does anyone else hear some sort of chant in the distant background in the second half/last third? I can only pick it up on headphones , but I swear it’s there.
Props for spotting that! I can't believe I never noticed that...
Also, the 4:44 thing is interesting. I remembered that 4 is a 'bad luck' number in East Asian cultures.
"In many East Asian cultures, including China, Korea, Japan and Taiwan, the number four is steeped in superstition. This fear of the number four, or tetraphobia, holds so much power that many buildings skip the fourth floor, much like how some Western buildings omit the 13th.
The root of this fear lies in linguistics. In Chinese, the word for the number four sounds eerily similar to the word for death. This phonetic resemblance isn't limited to just one culture. In Japan and Korea, the words for four and death are identical. In Japan, the number 49 is particularly dreaded as it sounds like the phrase "pain until death."

Can't do it justice yet but this will be the 2nd song for me to single out and share my thoughts on. A standout track for me. It was the first song during the retail session where I put pencil to paper and tried to put the sounds into words. My first note was something like "the drums, no not drums, but the driving rolling rhythm sounds naturalistic, like it's based on a spoken phrase."
Golden Hour describes the quality of light while the sun is between six degrees above the horizon and six degrees beyond
