18. I Saw Through Platonia

I think this is the most menacing sounding track on the album. It makes me imagine a pessimistic sci-fi/horror film with modified humans and huge laboratories that are clinically clean but creepy, and it having some sort of harrowing open-ended final scene.

I love this. Almost like the ending of Prometheus; the horror of some final twist is muted by a flash of cryogenic frost. The cruel non-ending all but implying another film to follow.

The heartbeat only ends because the buzz does, too.
The assurance that we will meet again in another life.

Yeah, totally!!! I'm bummed about Prometheus because the good bits are incredibly good and the bad bits didn't connect with me at all, but the ending definitely is part of the good bits and something I'd like to see more of in cinema.

Have you watched Beyond the Black Rainbow? It's a very BoC film imo!

The last 20 seconds or so when it stutters to an end with the heartbeat is an incredible end to the album - their best, in my humble opinion.

I feel very much that this track is open-ended with regards on what’s to come, i.e. no ’end of BoC’ or anything such. It pretty much resonates with a feeling that the future is unknown.

As for the title, my reading is that “I saw through Platonia” is a stylized version of “I saw through it all.” “Platonia” evokes an idealized or philosophical realm, so seeing through it suggests seeing past appearances, illusions, or the entire construct, but I sense a double-edged meaning here with s possible, more mundane flavor.

My take and maybe the most unpopular opinion on this release:

Inferno sounds even better when you listen to it with the tracklist order reversed. Starting with Platonia and ending with Introit.

Just try It.

Also reminds me of similar sounds just after each bass note in New Seeds.

This is growing to be a real favourite - possibly their strongest album closer yet. The mysterious and emotionally ambiguous chord changes give me similar vibes to IABPOITC, which was always going to be a winner.
