Re: WATMM is shutting down
Sorry for triple-posting, can't edit the posts.
I want to emphasize that WATMM is far from the worst offender of such misconduct - I suppose it's been adequately benevolent overall. There is a unique sense of humor they possess that does resonate with me and is inherently a little abrasive. Although it did take some (maladaptive?) desensitization to get used to.
This isn't the best example but some user apparently called Tycho's music "pure evil". Scott himself somehow caught wind of this and was so bewildered by such hyperbolic rhetoric that he typed up a long response. Completely unexpected to the user in question, they felt their heart sink.
I must admit that it's hard to take issue with this exchange because it's so hilarious. I think it's Scott's apparent innocence and shelteredness from such over-the-top antics that are a mundane sight for most internet users.
Also - was I being hypocritical by empathizing that I'm not big on the mau5? Is that not elitism? I do like some of his stuff, like the track HR 8938 Cephei. I think it has more to do with his lifestyle - the guy is essentially that 1 in a million case where someone chased down a fantasy they came up at age 12 and succeeded - to chug down energy drinks, play video games, date models and drive sportscars all day while making millions doing something as self-indulgent and easy as house music production. Some questionable societal impact could ensue from all of this.
Still though, I could never imagine being hostile towards him. These guys aren't brain surgeons or railroad safety inspectors, there are zero lives at stake if they do a "bad job".
To get back on topic, I've been a frequent visitor of WATMM for new music discoveries. Now that sites like Reddit have garnered traction and supposedly "equivalent" communities abound, the savviness of WATMM just isn't there. It's become more clear to me how astonishing it is that there's been a community that shares my exact taste in music to a large degree.
Eager to find out how keyosc will turn out

RIP to the forum that said twoism.org is filled with delusional, docile nature people or whatever.

People love to act vile and then act surprised when others want nothing to do with them. Rather than having a little humility, we’re stuck watching them throw tantrums. Yet another day of hearing these losers hurl the same 3 boring insults or political buzzword of the month they’ve been fed by a podcaster.TaoTapeTao wrote:The more you post the more sad and pathetic it gets. I’m a "tr/nny" by the way, do you have any new material vitriolie or are we going to hear the same old tired, false narratives you guys have run on for ages?

I discovered them at the time of TH was dropped and both had a fun ride of speculation. But, twoism is much more passionate, hence this forum is dedicated only for BoC, and Watmm is for whole electronic idm scene.
Funny thing, at the time I was completely losing interest in these types of music, and they managed to reinvent my interest again.
Well, everyhting coming to and end eventually.

I was active there in the early to mid 00s. It was a major part of following the music, for me. I stepped away because of some of the people / politics there. FFWD to now, not long found out the news / couldn't login / place closed / joined the new place. In time to see some of the people I didn't care for back then being pined for by some, now. Oh well... WOW i did not hear that WATMM shut down! man. sad! I never really went there, but i too understand that it had quite a place in the zeitgeist. could have always thought of them jokingly as our little foil, too. shame. bummer!

There's keyosc now which is basically the same.Waterbagel wrote:WOW i did not hear that WATMM shut down! man. sad! I never really went there, but i too understand that it had quite a place in the zeitgeist. could have always thought of them jokingly as our little foil, too. shame. bummer!
I used to post a lot on WATMM and spent a lot of time in their chatroom years ago (early-2010s through late-2010s). It's true they were a bit the Something Awful of electronic music, and it's true they'd laugh at certain BoC fan communities to the point the phrase "The Brothers" was a running meme with them, but overall it was not 4chan. I remember a bunch of overtly leftist members and they did have threads on current events where the tone was generally progressive. Re transphobia I was active on WATMM when I first started transitioning and I think they took it well? Zoe Blade was a well respected member too, as far as I know. They even were more or less gracious to some outsider members like The Bro. Overall it wasn't really a mean community but it's true they didn't have a lot of respect for Twoism.
I have an account on Keyosc but I think I never paid much attention to the site so I don't know what it's like. I don't even remember what my username is lol. I don't expect it to be bad though if it's just WATMM under another name?

By the way, I don't know if it was a glitch but I never paid for my WATMM account lmao. I opened it when it was still free and never was asked to pay?akirako wrote:There's keyosc now which is basically the same.Waterbagel wrote:WOW i did not hear that WATMM shut down! man. sad! The most ridiculous part of this would be the fact that you'd see people on there taking the piss out of Twoism & Twoism members for the attitude towards BoC and "the brothers", but then the same posters WITH THE SAME USERNAMES would be breathlessly posting here and trying to decode eg BoC website changes or any hint of a new release.akirako wrote:it's true they'd laugh at certain BoC fan communities to the point the phrase "The Brothers" was a running meme with them
