Re: 05. Father And Son
I'm not getting that from it at all. That means "God is great." I'm sure some Muslims might find it offensive, but I don't think it's a direct dig, not anymore than the other references to religion all over both both album and their larger discography. Just on this song, they change the document clip and chop out "Christ" when the son says "Well I can do all things through [the Lord]." And all those chopped up voices on the son's shoulder sound fucked up anyway. None of them sound particularly flattering.ColinWallis wrote:Hilarious they chose to make Muslims sound completely fucked in contrast to the other voices lmfao

It's pretty evidently more fucked up sounding, as it should. But of course, I get it. You can say whatever you want about any religion but that one, right?drvaughan wrote:I'm not getting that from it at all. That means "God is great." LOL, personally I don't care.
Interpret it how you want, I guess. But we all have ears.
Re: 05. Father And Son
There are many voices in the mix that are just as destroyed as the one that says Allahu Akbar.

The other voices clearly sound more human and less manipulated.
Sure, they sound fucked up too, but there is a big difference.

Re: 05. Father And Son
I disagree because the first vocal phrase in the song that begins at 0:34, for example, is less discernible than the voice that says Allahu Akbar.

mate i gotta say, i think you're hearing what you want to hear here. and that's leaving aside the possibility that maybe you've got a darling being name-dropped in one of the near-unrecognizable bitsColinWallis wrote:The other voices clearly sound more human and less manipulated.

Re: 05. Father And Son
During my first two listens, I wasn't hooked, but after repeated listens, I really appreciate it now.

The 'Son' sounds whackadoodle in this track, and rightly so.
Skull avatar guy is projecting his dislike of Muslims onto artists whom he's never met, lol.

Re: 05. Father And Son
Ok if we're all done singin along now
2:54-2:56 have loved this part. If im not tripping it sounds like "L-O-U-V-E", which I honestly thought was just a play on the word "love", but no, after getting curious I looked it up. After scrolling past all the Louvre stuff, finally got what I was looking for: it's actually french slang for "she-wolf". Guess what Dante encounters among the wood? (its also just a general term of endearment for fierce women as well).

Re: 05. Father And Son
The more I hear this track, the more I think it's the saddest track on the album. The poor dad, trying to reason with his doolally son has really got to me. But then I'm a father myself and the idea of one of my kids becoming estranged through some kind of religious conversion is awful.

If you think the brothers made their sonic decisions in any way that shares your western, dog shiite Islamaphobia then you are a sad individual. Open your mind and think critically.ColinWallis wrote:Hilarious they chose to make Muslims sound completely fucked in contrast to the other voices lmfao

Re: 05. Father And Son
These are my exact feelings, and I'm not a Dad to anyone. It just feels too horrible a scene to gravitate around. Not hating on the song obviously, it's grown on me but still it's a most disturbing cut in an otherwise "accesible" album.DFD21 wrote:The more I hear this track, the more I think it's the saddest track on the album. On ColinWallis' words: I don't think he's provoking at all. I can see why he would think like that, though I am myself extremely far from his worldview. We shouldn't be so neurotic and itchy.
