Which is your LEAST FAVORITE song from INFERNO??
I find this changing quite a bit over time. Which is your least favorite track?

Acts of Magic, easily.
It just really doesn't feel like it warranted being its own track separated from Memory Death like A:B:B:C was on Geogaddi.

P.S. Pull my finger

Genuinely love them all, but my least is Naraka (it’s the Hare Krishna), and then Prophecy. I’ll hide now.

I dont know about least fav ( I love the track), but I still dont really understand the tracklist sequencing of Deep Time. I guess it might (as I speculated elsewhere) be to make the album feel more like a mixtape. The 3-track Word > Magic Land > Labyrinth sequence is so powerful, dark, full of deep maroons, browns, greens, golds... then Deep Time jars with deep blues, greys and blacks. It was absolutely perfect as the Tape 05 13-year interlude / intro between TH and Inferno, but in the tracklist it just feels a bit out of place. (For now).Waterbagel wrote:don't kill me - but Deep Time. i love every song on the album though. but i am surprised from the survey at how highly that one was rated! maybe it's not clicking for me yet
Least fav is probably Somewhere Right Now, which is a nice palette cleanser / mood setter, but just feels a little under-developed and unmemorable. There's gotta be room in the 2.5mins to stuff in a trill or memorable harmony.
I remember when this was fields

ah for me, it's the sad little synth line that comes in to kinda bolster the chord progression. that and the car crash in the background. only clued into it on a headphone listen, now i love it. enjoyed that cocteau twins feel before, but now it's up there with in the annexe for mesowhereareyouliving? wrote:Least fav is probably Somewhere Right Now, which is a nice palette cleanser / mood setter, but just feels a little under-developed and unmemorable. I am sure it will change but, Into the Magic Land.
After the emotional intensity of Memory Death, and the all out quirkiness of Word Becomes Flesh, Magic Land falls a little flat. It's still good, just a little tame after what came before. Probably a sign I should listen to that one on its own and see what I can gain from it.
People don't care for Acts of Magic?! That shit is straight up Geogaddi right thar!

You know, I can't even answer this. I keep considering every song and they are all so vital within the context of the album, I can't imagine any of them not being on it, and so they all have almost equal importance in a way, if I was held at gunpoint I'd say The Word Becomes Flesh though. It does something weird to my ADHD brain.

Arena Americanada, although I'm trying really hard I promise.
I just never dug BOC tracks with glossy, 80s synthpop vibes. The middle of TH drags for me for much the same reason. I immediately just see some guy with a Miami Vice pastel suit complete with rolled up sleeves.

I'm going to say it... Prophecy...
I don't *dislike* it at all - but think the vocals grate in a way that others on the album don't.

Amen, brother. I voted the same without seeing your comment. You nailed it - It's the glossy initial 80s US TV synth that really puts me off. I guess that's the point, but it gives me a bit of a thousand yard stare.Mexicola wrote:Arena Americanada, although I'm trying really hard I promise.

Oh, no! Not the bees! Not the bees! Aaaaahhhhh! Oh, they're in my eyes! My eyes! Aaaahhhhh! Aaaaagghhh!

I do sort of get where you are coming from on this, even though it's possibly my favourite on the album.Mexicola wrote:Arena Americanada, although I'm trying really hard I promise.

I do have lots of thoughts about what kicks it back over the line, for me, but this isn't a "defend your faves" thread haha
Anyway, it's Acts of Magic for me, because there has to be one but even then I'd only skip it on a random shuffle. In context it blends so well into Memory Death I give it a pass, I just think of it as a long intro to Memory Death

I guess I just see Acts of Magic as in interlude rather than a full track, and as such doesn't register on my list.

Re: Which is your LEAST FAVORITE song from INFERNO??
Honestly I went with Introit. Not because I dislike it but well..I HAD to pick one so...
Re: Which is your LEAST FAVORITE song from INFERNO??
Yeah, Introit (pronounced Intro-it I assume?) is nice but feels a little BOCliché perhaps?
I love Acts of Magic. So evil it should have a mini-series about it on the History channel discussing it's victims and possible motives. It's an interlude really though.

Acts Of Magic is the obvious one.
But if we're talking about full length tracks, probably All Reason Departs, it's just not jiving with me. I find the speech at the start quite cheesy. I like the chaotic nature of the opening synths but I find myself losing interest as it goes on.

Age of Capricon, I can't stand the speaking vocal, it's so exagerrated it just breaks the immersion. Also Naraka Krishna's is one of the biggest disappointments of the album.
I really like Into the Magic Land, although I didn't like it at first - I dunno why, the way it develops and adds layers with every round, maybe somehow works for me as Jacquard Causeway, keeping interested. And the melody I find cute, it's TCH era.
