There is also a place called 'Bauds of Cullen'. They grew up in Cullen which is near Buckie High so that could be another origin for the 'boards' part of the name. They were interestingly going by 'Bawds of Canada' when they gigged in Edinburgh in 1997.

They said in interview that their memories of Canada are of immense empty vistas, malls and boxy office spaces.

It is very clear that the name comes from Bored of Canada but they were two so Boreds of Canada.

I am 100% sure it is the true answer.
