According to a post on Reddit there was a stream and upload of Boards of Canada - Boc Maxima (CD rip) today.

Not sure if I am allowed to link that here...but thoughts?

Awesome! I'm new to the forum but have been a fan for a bit now. I just wasn't sure what the rules were around posting links to media. It was a pleasant surprise to come across it today!

Q1: how did you get this?!
A1: i bought it off a guy a few years ago

A3: yes, those originated from this CD

Q4: why release the whole thing now?
A4: inspired by the brilliant work of ‪@Samamdj‬ who tracked down some other rare boc material, spent a fat stack of cash on it, then posted it on the internet post haste. a decent quality rip of old tunes 2 was my holy grail. apart from that, joining in the post-Inferno hype!

Q5: what do you mean ‪@alexw44‬ "repaired missing audio"?
A5: between each track there was a split second of missing audio - not a gap which could be cut out, but audio overwritten by silence. alex repaired these gaps with reference to other sources for the audio. personally I think it is now impossible to tell where the gaps were!

Q6: i found a copy of this CD on Discogs / eBay after this video came out, is it real or is it a bootleg?
A6: if it's me selling it I'll put it in this video description. if not, probably a bootleg - because of the value of this band's rare merch, it is actively targeted by forgers from time to time. it's unknown how many CDs of this album exist but probably under 50. i wouldn't spend anything like as much as i spent unless the seller is able to authenticate its provenance somehow. if the audio is identical then 100% a bootleg due to Q5."

This is my understanding oif it but this is a common "issue" with homemade BOC CDs (for lack of a better term). From my understanding they put in a wrong setting in the software they used for burning which caused this issue (its reportedly also present on the homemade CDs of Twoism and that BOC Remii compilation)

about so. the way they burnt those CD-Rs, the tracks were quite likely not split by frames (multiples of 588 in samples) and also track-at-once rather than disc-at-once or session-at-once was used, causing ~1500 samples long gaps - those had been patched in by alexw. this, however has an upside, it will be very easy to tell if somebody is caught counterfeiting this disc, trying to pass it off as a genuine CD-R copy of maxima

I used PowerISO to convert the FLAC/CUE into a BIN/CUE, and I was able to play the Boc Maxima CD in Vib-Ribbon!! Whitewater is pretty tough I tell ya!

I'm the very first to try this experiment, and it was worth the wait! I got first place first try with 8008 points!

Listening to this CD rip again with cans on is really nice actually! Hearing a lot of new things in many of the tracks. I'm really happy this surfaced for us all to enjoy. =)

I wonder if it was just a case of it not fitting into any of their official release narratives, the nearest thing I can imagine it being a part of is Campfire Headphase but even then, it's just too dated/simple for the complexity of production they had achieved by this point.

Maybe at a push Twoism given it doesn't really have a particular cohesive style? Seems too hopeful/warm for that release too though. While I've seen it argued that MHTRTC is just a mixtape as opposed to a cohesive concept (not something I myself agree with), BOC Maxima sounds even more so to my ear.

I just hope this adds to the notion that at some point we're going to get the most beautiful array of unreleased tracks on the BOCset that didn't fit any of the releases but are amazing in their own time and place. Officially unreleased and remastered bangers like 5.8.78 and Alpha Rainbow etc.
