Writing a book on BOC – have you seen them live?
Hey,
I'm currently writing a book on Boards Of Canada that's due to be published next year.
I'd love to speak to anyone who has:
- Seen the band live, or
- Went to the Geogaddi listening sessions.
Tell me your experiences, memories, all of it. Was it loud? Crowded? Did a CRT really explode at the Lighthouse show? I'll of course credit you if I end up using your quotes.
Hit me up by email at jack[dot]chuter[at]live[dot]co[dot]uk.
Thank you so much!

Tell your friend that I am indeed THAT Jack Chuter. There's at least one other I'm aware of, because I keep getting their one-time verification codes for Roblox. But I'm the post-rock one.magrathea_ultima wrote:are you THAT Jack Chuter? Asking for a friend.Chuter wrote:Hey,

Re: Writing a book on BOC – have you seen them live?
I thought it would be interesting to people reading this thread you have some credentials in the field, so that’s good. Now onto the original question I cannot help, I never saw BoC live or attended any event. I hope those with that experience will reach out to you.
Cheers

You want to get in touch with a guy on instagram called Lonetapes. He was at the Lighthouse gig and describes the experience beautifully.

Did some quick search. You could try dropping this user BunnyRabbit a PM? Last time they were online was 2021, but it might still get through (some oldschool users awoke from their decades of slumber after I pm'd them here). Pretty sure they are legit.

...whilst the other just sort of stood there and watched the visuals... That's Marcus innit?

I saw them at the Lighthouse gig.

It was a weird venue. I think there'd been some sort of problem with the original location so they'd ended up in these warehouses that weren't really set up for gigs. The room was kind of wide but not very deep and there were a lot of people packed ("absolutely fucking rammed!!") in and trying to get in from the wide opening at the back.
BOC were set up as you've probably seen in the pictures. Loads of TVs and then they had a projector set-up throwing their images on the right hand wall of the room IIRC.
They didn't really do much. One seemed to do the music whilst the other just sort of stood there and watched the visuals and I guess cueing them in.
Ate the start of the set an alarm went off and they hard to start again. They looked pretty pissed off. I remember some wag shouting out "groundbreaking". This might explain why the first track is truncated
"This is madness!"
Hard to remember what was what with the music and visuals now but I think during Amo Bishop Roden they had some time-lapse of a sunrise; in 1969 they had the video of kids riding round and round a patio garden on trikes. I don't know which track it was for but they had one with a black screen and a couple of turquoise hexagons in the lower left hand corner. Then a new hexagon would appear at top right with some wildlife video in it. It would then glide down to join the other hexagons before disappearing into them. Then it's repeated. They were eagles in the wildlife bit but I can't remember what else.
"Who's that?"
Overall it was great but nothing extraordinary in terms of what they did musically or on stage. The visuals were the thing that stuck with me.

Throw away your smartphone.

Ha, thank you. I need to get less squeamish about citing my creds. I appreciate you coaxing me out.magrathea_ultima wrote:I thought it would be interesting to people reading this thread you have some credentials in the field, so that’s good. This was such a brilliant call, thanks! Turns out he was at the ATP gig but he lives 5 miles from me. Grateful for the tip-off!Wildfire wrote:You want to get in touch with a guy on instagram called Lonetapes. He was at the Lighthouse gig and describes the experience beautifully.

This, too, is awesome. Big thanks, I'll reach out!Cupz wrote:Did some quick search. You could try dropping this user BunnyRabbit a PM? Ah sorry my bad, must have gotten mixed up. That's so cool he's just down the road, seems like a lovely guy too.Chuter wrote:This was such a brilliant call, thanks!
