There's the parallel harmonies element someone identified in their music probably on YouTube - essentially rave chords pitching up and down. normally this technique has a certain sound to it (rave).
Someone correct me but if you do this with a normal sampler you get timing changes and even format changes which alter the tonality of the sample. From what I remember the VP can pitch up and down whilst retain formant and timing, potentially minimising the rave quality, especially on polyphonic acoustic instruments.
Could be chatting shite mind but it's definitely sounds responsible for the weirder glitchey stuff (on TH, inerno etc...) wonder if it's what we can hear on geogaddi. Digital time based processing and plenty of grundig

Yea, you're right about the Variphrase functionality and how it differs from typical sampling. However, you can still sample a chord and pitch it up and down, you just won't get those formant changes. The beauty of Variphrase is that it sort of turns your sampler into something closer to a Mellotron or Optigan, but being that it uses some form of like, FFT analysis or something, there are artifacts. I bought one in 2011 I think, and I honestly sold it within the year because I just thought it sounded ugly (I only like using time stretching for effect, but I didn't like that you basically didn't have a choice), I definitely regret it and I've been watching the used market for the last couple years.
I do think it's on Geogaddi a lot. 1969 vocoder line uses a sample as the modulator, but it's very likely they just encoded the sample and played the melody on the keys. There's SO much time stretching on Geogaddi, however it's kinda hard to say thats VP when they used the S1000 as well, which has great stitching algorithms. Ready Let's Go synth drone absolutely sounds stretched right off the bat. "Past Inside The Present" quote is stretched and probably formant shifted, there's the wild vocal stretchy synth stuff on Sunshine Recorder - honestly almost every single track has some sort of stretched element to it, or a vocoder-y sounding thing, I'd be hard pressed to say its not all over the record. Also, it was new tech, and I'm sure they were using the hell out of a brand new sampler with special features. Lastly, the most tell tale sign would be varying amounts of stretching within the same sample (like Telepath style).
