very sad news today! Dolly Parton has passed at 80

I know it's not a genre that I'd expect to be particularly popular around here, but for the american south, she really is kind of an icon and standard-bearer for what are far and away best character qualities of the region. always seeking to represent the best, particularly in defiance of all the assholes around here that try to show its worst. and her philanthropy to boot.. hundreds of millions of books donated to kids man.

damn shame. my band will probably throw in a karaoke of 9-5 at our show this weekend just to feel the feels with everyone

She was far more than just an icon for the american south. She was a superstar who chose *not* to be a multibillionaire in order to help those who needed it the most. The literal concept of putting your money where your mouth is. It's the complete opposite of the shitty philosophy of our modern world where individualism is all that matters and a sign of empowerment. She embodied empowerment first by taking full control of her talent and then by using her wealth to better the lives of real people. She didn't speak politics because she didn't need to: she made her actions speak for themselves. All these celebrities mourning her today could learn a thing or two on how she handled her power. It's funny how many of them spin the phrase "what would Dolly do?" as an individualist mantra when in reality it should be the standard for which we measure how real power is used.

Her beautiful contributions to all societies of the world are to many to count. You are so right, everyone should take a page from her book. She didn't just help america, but the entire world as well through her Imagination program. I even received a free book myself when I was young. Thank you Dolly Parton for teaching me how to read.

She was the single biggest donor to research that led to the Moderna covid vaccine. Contacted them and asked what she could do and gave them $1M. All just a tiny bit of what she did. Amazing.
